What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): This was truly a reflection 1 – it’s been over a week since I updated, through like two snowstorms.. and I actally completely forgot to write anything down, so I had to go back to the classroom to figure out who was there. All I remember is that we sang winter wonderland and it was cold so I wasn’t sure who would come, but we had a nice group of 6. I’m not even sure who assisted or shadowed

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): fairly small group, but having Suzanne from the Sandy library and Judy come was great.. content was important, though a little difficult to read – the immigration process sheet. kind of a one note class in that we just did a lot of dictation from the sheet, but it seemed like, as someone said.. they knew more about that than I did.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): A nice size class.. The group had come up with a good idea for a classroom layout, and I could have listened to them a little more.. their T shape idea was good.. I eventually followed their lead, but didn’t add the second table. Next time I will. Very familiar class, great feeling, and it was so cool to see a couple of folks who it’s been years since I’ve seen! And a couple of new people too. This group is not well-coordinated and would benefit from some consistency because of the size, but ultimately, it may well have paid off in terms of the general feeling of togetherness there.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Well.. what happened is Karl the Bird Man came and they brought 10 parrots and it was super interesting, folks were taking pictures. Karl was flirting with with one of the learners, and I struggled with how much to interrupt him. It was loud and a little difficult to work the language angle, but ultimately a really exciting and unplanned development that may turn out to bring in further collaborations, and fits into our nature curriculum

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Todos Juntos came, and that helped a lot keeping the kids busy. A little unbalanced with the higher skill folks on one side, and the lower skill folks on another side. lots of assistants with Carlos bringing members of his congregation. It was a little loud for the video, and we didn’t finish it, but folks were able to stay engaged. This was Carlos’ “Try My Recipe” and he allowed for corrective feedback during. Real world objects were more related to home maintenance than cleaning – that was a departure from the written lesson, but still within the scope of the module. Took off a point from reflection for late updating

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Jessica’s Gentle Intervention. She kept her cool even though the interruptions and switchbacks. Little chaotic with one child running around, and there was a moment where one of the learners might have felt a little shamed by me (patrik). I was trying to separate him and another learner, but it may have been taken as a criticism rather than encouragement.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): nice to see a large class at 2pm! people are starting to hear about it. It’s pretty cool too because it looks like it’s relatively higher skill learners coming, so we were able to go quite a bit deeper than we often can. This may suggest that we have a class from 12-130, 2-330, and 6-730? One learner came up and told me “excellent teacher” which is very nice. Great connection in the group, and good engagement. Some learners stepping up and really taking more of a leadership role.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): We enjoyed the realization the group continues to become more connected. With strategic placement of a couple students, there seemed to be more helping among them during the session. One student began reading a paragraph and actually read two whole paragraphs aloud at a time when Chandra would have been doing this. The use of props was good for the students but the do seem a bit bored by handing things around so we are looking at ways to change this up a bit. While the students continue to work towards proficiency the realization that so many children being in the room and just being children brings an element of distraction. Unfortunately, last night the poor moms were unable to focus on the lesson during the last 20 minutes of class due to the noise and continual running back and forth by the kids. Despite all of this, Chandra was able to keep going with her lesson
