What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): So happy that 4 people came! Esther called several folks right before, and they came, that was fantastic. Like most first classes, it had its awkward moments, and I didn’t really come with a lot of materials. I kept it going with “this is an apple” and a bit of dictation, but it never fully gelled. One learner has a condition where they say inappropriate things at times, which was a little unnerving for the learners. Still, they accepted the participant, and it mostly went well. We will see though, if it affects attendance the next week. I will follow up with Nate and Esther to check in with folks. Because there were no learners the first day, we considered moving to the daytime, but we have a chance of it rolling, so we’ll stick to it. Visited the PTA meeting and said hello to to several folks who participated in the intercambio, as well as chatting with the principal.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): nice size group for a Monday night in August. We were in the small room, and one newish person who was quite low oral proficiency, and was confused quite a bit along the way, but it was great that David, the library manager, could explain a little bit in Mandarin. Two learners coming back after a long time away. A video that had me speaking about the Festival of Nations!

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): all in all a great time, with great pictures, heartfelt moments. Although, on the technical side, some additional coordination on the facilitation would have been good. I gave the facilitation to Mira, but ultimately intervened in one part to match up the learners a little better, but then a final participant came, and I put them in a group of three, and as a result, it wasn’t the best combo of people, and one of the Spanish learners left. That diminished the numbers above quite a bit. But if that hadn’t happened, it would have been very great, there were many nice moments of recipe sharing going on.
