What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Monica and I spoke for quite a while before the class, and were able to come to a collaboration which worked out better than it could have! everyone touched and turned on their computers, we practiced keyboarding.. there were some level differences and some expectations that may have been a little underwhelming, but tried to make sure everyone was challenged with the keyboard. Everyone was helpful, but Ailis and Sean were really great to be with us. We will continue this throughout the year, and there’s an opportunity to build a really cool curriculum out of it (I guess I’ll be around on Mondays for a while!)

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): I couldn’t find the right video I wanted, so I used pictures, and they were interesting, but all like expensive camping things.. solar backpack, for example. It worked out ok as I was walking around and showing pictures, and discovered that one learner like had all the things for her go bag with her right then… the children were mildly difficult, one learner struggled throughout the class. took 4 days for me to update the website with this report.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): This was a complicated class that turned out pretty well. Our largest group yet, for one thing. lots of kids, but we had child care which was great. They all said they liked the ESL class, and didn’t need the computer class to be there, which was cool… but felt weird about it. Lots of requests for the hop pass!

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Challenging class… large group, many children, difficult to arrange them, we ended up with them on the side, and just doing a pass the item around activity to keep it going, more of a review than anything. still, the kids participated, and we have some new farsi/dari speakers it’s great to have new people!

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): following up on a harrowing day that Maureen had on Monday, we did pretty well with 15 people. We didn’t recognize May as a Shadower! We also were able to ask about rent payments, and people seemed pretty interested in answering.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Jota facilitated an awesome space – we made the groups be real estate agents, and they picked secret identities. the groups ended up splitting off and trying to sell each other their houses. It was impressive and engaging show for someone who had only met a group once!

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): A little smaller class than I expected, with one late learner causing a little rearrangement to happen. However, that learner speaks the same language as another learner, so it’s pretty cool that they can talk to each other! The materials were informative, but we needed a little something more active to get people engaged in multiple ways. Still, a couple of people may be able to access health services that might otherwise have not been able to, so a big win. Colin wants to come back again!

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): nice large group, we hit 15 again, and we can expect it to increase even further throughout the month. Great to see! Judy, wonderful as always, Madeline got into the groove right away, Santiago so good to be back! Francisco came in a bit late, so we worked on another day he could come to have a better experience. The word cloud was great. The final activity was a little contrived and we went over a bit. It was amazing to see a friend and former learner from another site, she came in with her whole family.. I love that!

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): small group, relatively high skill level. Lots of dictation and repeat, letting learners then tell their own story a little bit. Was feeling a little sticky, and not sure if it was working, but a good sign was the learners were speaking after class when I left for quite a while! They are drivers, so the hop pass wasn’t as relevant. We then moved to indigenous people’s day, and I couldn’t find a good video. If they come back, we’ll be able to ramp it up for them. We could have just had a conversation really.

Our new shadowers did great, and hopefully made some good connections with other organizations too. not the most amazing class, but an ok recovery from yesterday. At least one person said that noon is the perfect time for her 4 days a week.

One learner said “this is very interesting to me” which is not feedback we often get. Definitely diverted from the theme.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Great to see this group again. One learner wasn’t there, but the rest were in a good mood. We spent the entire time working through the employee questionnaire, but not so much about what the stuff means, but the pronunciation. We looked at the sheets and spoke the sentences aloud, instead of writing stuff down so there’d be more time to go through stuff. It was a little one-note, though one learner expressed appreciation for the pronunciation practice, saying, “I know the words, but they don’t understand me” Still, it would have been a better class if we had moved around or something.. and I wouldn’t be able to get away with that for many classes in a row.

I thought it might be too easy, but actually worked very well especially with the pronunciation practice. They brought some rice cakes! One bummer is that there’s no wifi, so it’s hard to work with video things.
