    We began with ABCS, yell and spell, and the title of today’s lesson which was done as a dialogue. We wrote it down, practiced saying it, then went around the room. We then did dictation with a few words related to shopping. Ashley got print outs from a Safeway ad to use for our word search. We finished up with more dialogue.

We did dictation with words related to emergency preparedness/evacuation. Krysie did a listen & point drill, utilizing the classroom and different safety awareness signs/exits. We ended the class with dialogue about the earthquake near Salem and how we should prepare for the overdue earthquake.

We watched two videos about Measure 97, each followed by a Dictation progression about the measure. We then did a round robin asking if people had heard of the measure.     What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Jenny led the class with Alphabet listen and point and Yell and Spell. After doing dictation with the title of the lesson, we identified apples on a worksheet. We then did apple-related dictation progression. Jenny had the class stand up and we did Listen and Do with actions related to apples. Then we did a round robin exercise with different varieties of apples. Everyone got to try some of the apples, and they then identified them on the earlier worksheet. It was a fun class.

    What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Pretty solid class. Katie used a video with a cut-out of sentences that needed to be put in order, which most people seemed really engaged in. One side of the class was a bit lower energy than the other side, so consideration may need to be given to disperse energy better on Mondays.

After doing dictation with the title of the lesson, we watched a Reconsider Columbus Day video. We did some dictation that was used in the video and then listened to the video one more time. We then did dictation of different shopping words/phrases. We did round-robin of each material used in diction. We did document search listen and point with a Rite Aid ad.

    The learners were introduced to what to do in case of an emergency, including an earthquake. Sentences were dictated regarding emergency and non-emergency contact numbers. The class watched the video: Drop, Cover, Hold On! Then a dialogue was dictated, followed by a round robin of an example conversation with a 911 operator. The learners seemed to enjoy the challenge and joked with each other, swapping names when one of the questions asked: “What is your name?” The class ended with a document search of an earthquake preparedness checklist. A good turn out and nice class today.

The MC lead some dictation choral response, a couple dialogs, showed a short video, and demonstrated what to do in an earthquake. A new learner showed up an hour late, stayed for 5-10 minutes, and left. It was unusual but the MC handled it really well.

After we did dictation progression with the class title, Maureen had several sentences for dictation that were related to apples. We then had a chance to taste and rate samples of five different types of apples that Maureen brought. We had a round robin passing around apples. Then we played a game with letter tiles, spelling out words related to apples. To finish up, we all had a piece of apple pie that Maureen had baked. It was a small class, but everyone had fun.
