    What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): This was Ashley’s Try My Recipe. Because I forgot the scorecard, we just worked with the song Silver Bells. It was ok, a little slow, but we worked through it well. The names/alphabet took a long time because we did it a little differently. Ashley was very gracious and receptive to coaching!

The class was very engaged, helped each other a lot and laughed lots too! A new student came in at the very end and quickly jumped in and was immediately helped by her neighbors.

    What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): fairly small group, but having Suzanne from the Sandy library and Judy come was great.. content was important, though a little difficult to read – the immigration process sheet. kind of a one note class in that we just did a lot of dictation from the sheet, but it seemed like, as someone said.. they knew more about that than I did.

    What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): The lesson plan was made by Ashley and Patrik, and well delivered by Megan! We started with Alphabet Listen & Point, Yell and Spell, and then a dictation progression on the steps of how to make wrapping paper from a paper bag. After writing those steps down we handed out paper bags and Megan went back through the steps and the learners did them all together. We had a couple artists in the room! It was a fun class! Lots of laughter and engagement and lots of working together amongst learners. One new learner who seemed comfortable and fit in quickly.

A couple advanced words and a few unusual words found in the carols excited the learners and they were pleased to learn them. Class harmony was top notch with learners helping each other from across the table and everything felt ideally productive.

    We had two brand new students today! Patrik led a number of engaging activities- the ppt standards and some related to immigration. We also discussed the impending winter storm and potential closures in the city. There was a lot of laughing and cooperation. After class, we shared Pilau (sp?) that one of the students had prepared.

    We started the class with the alphabet listen and point & Yell and Spell. We dictated the title of the lesson and went around the room saying the title of the lesson “The title of today’s lesson is Let it snow! Let it snow!” We did a document listen and point with a printed weather forecast for the next 5 days in Portland. I made the class count how many times the word “snow” appeared on the sheet. I conducted an activity in which they voted for which weather condition they liked the most and we did a round robin activity about the most popular weather condition. We ended with a round robin about which days it will snow this week and which days it will be sunny this week.

    What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): We enthusiastically participated in ‘Alphabet Listen and Point’ and ‘Yell and Spell’, and then jumped into our lesson of the day: ‘Traction Devices Required’. Joseph had prepared a lesson that included a number of traction devices/winter preparedness items (chains, jumper cables, etc.) and we did dictations and dialogue practice. Then we made hot cocoa in class (!) reading through ingredients and having the learners instruct each other in the various steps. Then we sipped our hot cocoa and discussed various ways the learners make hot winter drinks. Joseph brought tupperware containers so the students could each take home the mix we made. We closed class with another dictation and dialogue called “I am going to Mt. Hood this weekend. Reflected and left.
