What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Today;s class worked a lot on pronunciation. I had them write down a few sentences and repeat them using choral response, and a few short dialogs that they passed around the table. After that, we did a document search with a Pathway to Citizenship poster/chart, and listened to the National Anthem.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Class started a couple minutes late but ended on time. Today’s class included brief two sentences that the learners wrote down and repeated with choral response, and a round robin activity using “Have you been to…?” We also did a round robin activity using a map I used in the last class that had been cut into each region of the US. Towards that last bit of class, I ran out of activities so I had the learners work together to put the US back together by region. Then, I did a listen and point with that.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Class started a little late while we waited for more learners to show up. It was a very engaging class. Along with the alphabet sheet and the title of today’s lesson, we practiced dialogs on meeting new people, and the sort of small talk interactions you would have with strangers on the bus, or cashiers.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): At the begining of class Graziella had everybody spell their names and say where they’re from. Then she explained what we were going to be talking about and sort of set the stage for Leah (a Catholic Charities intern) to take over. Leah went through a powerpoint and had the class compare the education systems of their home country to the US. After Leah finished Gaziella took over and wrapped that up with questions and set the stage for a person from the library to talk about their services. Graziella also passed out a paper suggesting that they come to PPT English classes.

There were a few learners who really LOVED this activity. We dictated the addresses for IRCO and the Sunshine Division and did a listen and point related to community spaces. We also explained what 211 was for and a brief description of the history of Thanksgiving. After class, we helped learners sign up for community resources and invited everybody to the Moveable Feast.
