What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): As learners arrived after class had started…. Our MC, made a point to welcome them in, making them feel special….& not embarrassed for coming late… He also showed them where to seat saying…” I’m so glad you came, I saved a seat for you” … The routine continued, say & point, spelling names, then he passed out an article….it became quiet….everyone was reading… They were intrigued… Nice…

Customary beginnings with alphabet sheet, both point to and verbal naming of
letters & groups of letters. This was followed by a dialogue on one’s own
personal visit to a doctor’s office. Closing activity was a game, based on ‘Simon Says,’
using instead the ‘Doctor Says,’ asking all to participate by pointing out various parts
of our own bodies.October 7, 2015 at 8:19 am #6749WebMaestrexKeymasterLesson Title: Back To School Sale

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): the group grew.. and several folks from Monday night came back, and a couple of newer folks too. We are definitely seeing an influx due to the beginning of the year. I used only one card from DoP – and people said – oh, the people with the difficult names! Which is true.. Because we were talking about shopping, I said – Sacagawea bought a boat.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Patrik didn’t have a lesson plan today, but was able to come up with something new to do. All the learners sat in a circle without desks and we went over information about what types of items we can recycle according to a recycling document. It was a different model of class than I’ve seen normally, but Patrik pulled it together.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific):
It started a bit fast… But learners caught on… Late arrivals were greeted & recognized and asked to spell their name. (Making them feel included) MC, moved certain learners around to strategically place higher level with lower level to help benefit them. Worked out nicely… Pictures from a newspaper were shown of certain refugees, it helped them grasp the idea. We had a dialogue where learners went around telling each other about a certain refugee… “Moti is from Bhutan. He lives with his family in Beaverton” thats an example
Then they did search for words in a document from IRCO, that they got to keep to have a resourceOctober 9, 2015 at 2:29 pm #6764Monica Quintero-DeVlaeminckSpectatorLesson Title:I have a food Allergy

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific):
We started off a bit fast for some learners today…. The MC realized that the transitions need to work on a bit more… and slowly go into them, such as spelling the names, or write this down… The other realization is that this particular group really helps each other, such as Epitacia helping Janet… or Rosario helping Margarito… In the future moving the stronger learners next to ones that would benefit would be ideal. The MC stated that this reflection helps him learn on what to do better next time.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Fun class! We started and ended on time. Charlie began with the usual warm up activities of alphabet and yell and spell. We then did a short dialogue and then practiced it as a group, then a few learners went to the front of the room and then again as a group. Next, the focus was on the bill of rights.. there was a listen/point, lots of choral repetition and then a fun game to help learners remember the script. Learners then wrote out some of the ammendments and class ended with a short listen.do activity. Way to go, Charlie!

We did listen and point with the alphabet sheet, yell and spell with our names, and a dictation progression. We then introduced our selves, where we are from and what our country id known for. We did this through dictation progression and round robin. There was also a globe passed around and pictures of thing Colombia is known for.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): One of the least effective classes I’ve had in a long time. I got one learners name totally wrong.. multiple times and was not seeing it. Group was small, my energy was off, I was tired, and folks weren’t working together.. plus, with two new people, I was training them both, ineffectively, at the same time. One of those days you just have to apologize over and over.
