What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): It was Brenna’s dress rehearsal, she was a little nervous in the beginning but then she rolled with it. The class had a lot of fun, lots of laughter. Several learners had hard time with pronunciation of the numbers and distinguishing 15 from 50 so Brenna made sure that everybody practiced saying those numbers. Good start Brenna!

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): large class, folks kept coming, up until quite late, and the latest folks didn’t integrate well. lovely to see so many folks there! people are starting to bring their own friends.. I felt off balance, and the materials were a little challenging to work with, passing around pictures, for that size of group. I tried a few things like having one group writing down, but it just gets off balance. Ivy and Barbara really saved the day!

We played a numbers game centered on who can say numbers the fastest. We then did yell and spell with names and moved on to a dictation progression with a guiding sheet. Played a game that involved following directions and moving around and we ended with Listen and Do with cardinal directions.

Students were engaged and laughing, and they practiced speaking for fluency when sharing their thanksgiving plans with each other. The students also got to play a game at the end in which they unscrambled words that appeared throughout the lesson, I thought that was a nice touch.

We went through the regular lesson plan format and spent a lot of time on the dialogue. The conversation was about asking a repair man to come and fix a refrigerator. The group was very good about working with each other to help with the large/challenging words. We did a lot of repetition and then each person had a chance to practice the dialogue with the person next to them. Once we finished this we played a version of memory using the words that had been used in the dialogue. The group kinda made up their own rules on how to play memory which was different than what we usually do, but they all seemed to go with it and the teacher was very patient to let it take on its own feeling. There were also some new learners who were hesitant to speak at all during the dialogue but the teacher was patient till they were ready to participate fully. There was a lot of laughing and joking during the memory game, everybody was fully engaged in that. From there we moved to a physical activity where everybody was up and moving acting out words and actions as directed by the MC.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): A very small group for Veterans Day. Not surprising, it’s one of those days that’s a little confusing, since everything else is closed. In the future, being clear about what’s coming up could help. But it’s nice to work with folks more personally, and we did some pronunciation work. In a couple cases, I felt like it was creating frustration, but I switched direction, and it helped. One learner is finally getting his Z down, after many many classes. Encouraging to see this happen!
