Started with the ABC’s point and say… then proceeded with the names.. then Ramin changed it up a bit… Instead of the “The Title of today’s ;lesson?” he said… What is the name of today’s lesson?… Kept the learners on their toes.. awesome.. then proceeded with Turkey words… such as gobble, turket, thursday, serve, cranberries, etc… then had them fill out those words on a bingo sheet..then we played BINGO… they got competitive… I think it went very well…. Ramin was a bit hard on himself… it is a monday night… Ramin,…. I think you did great!

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): It was a No Lesson Plan class today. We started off with the alphabet sheet and then we went into dictating numbers. Afterwards we played a Around the World type game with numbers and then names. Class consisted mostly of dictation and game-ilke activities. We ended the class with a listen and do activity that really connected the learners. THERE WAS A LOT OF LAUGHING!

    Total Score:27

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): The majority of the leaners were late but the teacher rolled with it pretty well. After the alphabet sheet, names, and the title of the lesson, we worked on pronunciation with a dialog, and a round robin activity that turned into sort of a mini classroom discussion since it was a high level class. To end the lesson, we did a listen and do that got the learners laughing and enjoying learning new vocabulary.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Energetic and laughy class, but a little hard to keep on track. It was great to have Svetlana back after a year, she’s so great and really gets how it works. We used the stormwater model and she brought another Americorps with her. The highlight was poop – it was hilarious. Didn’t quite finish on time.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific):
The majority of class time was used to explore Walgreens coupons with the students and discuss items the students like to purchase at the store. I really liked the number activity at the end of class, which involved students shouting out numbers. For example, one student would shout “1”, and the next student would shout out “2”, and then the next one “3”….this continued until we reached a pretty high number. After getting into a predictable rhythm, Alex started pointing randomly at students, prompting them to shout the next number in the sequence. This kept students intensely engaged and focused.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): I decided not to start with alphabet, I kind of worked with Thanksgiving – Did you make a Turkey for Thanksgiving? We learned some interesting things about everyone, one learner making an Iranian style Turkey because their kids like it. The lesson was slow and meandering, we focused on first and last names, and only brought in the actual topic at the very end. But it felt enjoyable.

Today was the second of Monica’s silent classes, so rather than do things like saying the letters on the alphabet sheet, she signed them to the students. She also had the class read a passage about military uniforms, followed by a T/F worksheet. By nature, the silent class format forces the students (and DJ/Assistants) to pay even more attention to the MC. Overall it was a great class!
