What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): decent class, we had to move to another room, which was small and a little stuffy, but it worked out well. Wanna & Vivaldy noticed that it was a little more intimate.. though there were also some folks who seemed a little more intimidated, one learner still feels a little intimidated by her daughter. I brought a new learner, and his daughter came. It’s good to see it stable/growing…

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): this class was a little smaller than last week, but it was a beautiful day, and we still had our regulars. We saw direct improvement with a couple of learners who were really struggling, probably more insecurity than inability. all assistants did great, and we created the “banquet style” which really helped the flow go around. So great to have Wanna there to help with interpretation. A couple of us had haircuts! We talked about what we did this weekend, and then went on to more bill practice, and started writing checks… maybe next time, set up autopay?

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Santiago kept them busy and working for their first class. We explored language around shutting off your water valve (troublesome word there!), and electrical panel. Also we did a class evaluation for the library.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): This felt like the first successful day. The energy was good, Vivaldy and Travis were great, The bill was small and hard to read, but we were able to do an effective listen and point, and ask questions around the room. there’s a decent level gap, but that was bridged well by the assistants. We used two tables stuck long way together this time, though banquet style would probably be better. My serviice has been shut off was relevant and engaging, and it helped to have interpretation by Wanna and Travis – Travis also filled the gap with our higher skill vietnamese learner. Vivaldy worked with our lowest skill and most nervous learner. and showed some very practiced technique

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): many interesting things happened. We planned in advance and used Fred Meyer shopping circulars to work off the language. Robin worked on a shopping list, and we worked through a dialogue about where to find things in the store, which went pretty well. Unfortunately, one learner left halfway through the class.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): In this class, we switched the topic from what I had planned to shopping related language. It went pretty well, and we were able to make room for Wanna to step in and facilitate a lot of the class. She did very well, it was like a mini dress rehearsal. The only issue on engagement is one learner who doesn’t speak Cantonese was feeling isolated. I spent time working with her one on one to keep her engaged. The other parents really liked the shift in the style and felt motivated to keep practicing.

One new learner was very anxious and low sklll level, and I struggled to get the folks to help each other. At the end, they asked to write things on the board, and I asked them to trust a little bit and try it out, and help each other.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): We ended up having the class at the Chinese restaurant, and it was fun – we passed around a lot of objects, worked with the kids, had lots of help, and laughed a lot. the higher skill folks were wanting a little more, and we had a youngster who was wanting my attention a lot, but added to the fun.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): It was interesting working with Tom Hanks.. the name Hanks was surprisingly difficult. Most people didn’t know him, and the video that I used was.. incomplete and too long. Should have found more clips, that would have worked better. Still, kind of interesting to name off a list of movies. One learner knew a lot of them!

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): This was a tough day. running late from another appointment, and another class at IRCO to cover, basically, my world fell apart this day for about 3 weeks. Brian was here, forgot he was coming. Brought food, and had to rely on the day before my birthday to excuse myself from poor showing. Still, class was fun, took pictures, sang different versions of happy birthday in different languages.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): This class was submitted 1 week after the class. Though I was running very late – I showed up about 5 minutes before the class started. A few people were late, and we had 5 assistants (and a full office) the class went pretty well. I was surprised and honored that the VP, Duncan, sat in. I’m not sure if I remember one of the Shadowers name – Bryan? Learners mostly low skill, but several very connective and energetic. everyone relaxed into the activities after about 40 minutes, and it was a pretty good feeling for a first class. Shadowers on the whole very engaged and flexible, energetic. I think the group will be able to take this for their own without any problem.

I remember one higher skill level Chinese speaker coming from Vancouver. We had one learner who really only ended up with us accidentally, which was kind of awkward, though she did ok. Only that one learner was having some trouble with the map, but ultimately everyone was feeling able to navigate the map by the end, and even locating themselves and the library on the map.
