What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Three learners, including one new learner who was at a very basic level with writing. Jane had them switch seats so the most advanced learner was in the middle and could more easily share writing with and help the others. We used two kinds of maps, including a TriMet map, to talk about and write about how to choose the bus that would get us closest to various destinations in Portland, which the students all seemed to respond well to and think useful.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Started really late between being in a meeting that started late and the orientation occurring in the classroom. Played around with drawing a map of Oregon and having learners work together to remember locations of various places in Oregon. Finished with some 1-1 convo between facilitator/shadower and learners

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): This class was fantastic! It was one of those times when everything worked swimmingly. I dictated the Sister Sledge song and they questioned me about the repeats, AND the incorrect grammar! I was so pleasantly surprised. They started to catch on that maybe what they were writing was a song?? A thought maybe it was a Beatles song with the word ‘together’ being included and was shocked when I sang (a little tiny bit) “Come Together.” The song was perfect connective tissue. We ended the class with a riveting game of Scrabble tile scramble ‘LADIES V. GENTLEMEN’ edition where I was corrected on my bad spelling!!! waht waht waht…:(
