Lesson Title: Unpaid Work
Date of Class: 6/1/15
Day of Class: Monday
Time of Class: 12-2pm
MC: Patrik
DJ:
Assistants:
Module: Housekeeping
How Many Learners: 9
Materials Status (loyalty cards, alphabet sheets, etc): brought some self eval sheets for Franz and YaniSelf Evaluation
Preparation: Forgot to Show Up (1) vs. Every Hair In Place (10) = 4
Technique: Completely Incompetent (1) vs. Flawless Delivery (10) = 5
Engagement: Snoring Loudly (1) vs. Absolutely Riveted (10) = 6
Connection: Open Hostility (1) vs. Kumbayah (10) = 3
Poise: Charlie Brown (1) vs. Prince (10) = 5
Reflection: “It was ok.” (1) vs. Life-changing Epiphany (10) = 5Total Score: 28
What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): A pretty nice class for a rainy day – but one learner, who I hadn’t seen in a while, came back, and though he is helpful, he makes jokes and he hurt the feelings of a longtime participant.. they kind of have a back and forth thing. It was not helped by another participant, a male, also being helpful who was just.. over the top. I didn’t hear the comment, or how she expressed her frustration and she apologized several times, but definitely saw that she was leaning toward the women she was near. Ultimately, I’d like for this to never happen again.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): So interesting! We had a group of 5, almost all new – they are on the staggered shift, so they won’t all be able to come at this time slot, but it does looks like the 715-830 time is a good one, so far. They’re happy to have something. Because it was all brand new, there was some extra training to do with the group, but they started getting there – a little push back from one learner who appeared a little shamed when I interrupted her eager helping of a lower skill person. It seemed ok by the end, but I look forward to seeing if they all come back.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): We did some outreach and bam! 5 people, some returning, some new. An energized group, with some key people we wanted to get. Though I wasn’t fully prepared, and it’s taken several days to catch up, it was a good result despite a lowish score.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Because I wasn’t sure who was going to show up, and other reasons, I didn’t have a lesson planned. But one of the first things that happened was a returning learner said she was going to bring some salad rolls, and we leveraged this into a full session about how to make salad rolls. It was engaging and the time went by quickly.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): We learned new vocabulary related to hand washing, and used a handout to learn the proper way to wash our hands. We went around the table asking each other what is the most important step in preventing germs (wash your hands). Listen and Do involved various motions showing the steps of proper hand washing. We ended class by using a Fight BAC handout for listen and point. This was a smaller than usual class, but we had a few new learners.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Unfortunately a small class this week – probably in part due to the line being down, so the people who came really wanted to be there. Because they were not working, though, we should have just kept going until 3, we had a nice small group and Kelly the owner was there. I saw some growth in confidence in one of the newer learners, and we definitely had fun. This report was entered 5 days late.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Lots of amazing energy with Laura Kutner from Trash for Peace and Monica from Nadaka Nature park in the room with us. We started off with butterflies, but then realized we had these amazing bug larvae! That was cool. Some real progress with some of the learners today, we could really see it. A little role confusion with Monica, I didn’t quite make it clear enough exactly how it should go.. which is partly because I didn’t fully write out a lesson either. We will do birding next month!
