What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): We had 3 new learners in class today. Mark came prepared and led class on the topic of Cesar Chavez. Learners tackled dialogue that addressed the United Farm Workers movement and their symbols such as their flag. We listened to an on topic song and wrote down lyrics. We acted out action words like “pick” and “strike”. Students were enthusiastic and asked for copies of dialogue to take home and study.

Class went well, we had a better attendance this time including a two new learners. There was laughter and students were engaged. The beginners struggled a little but they were supported. Assistants did a nice job reinforcing students positively all the time and modeling.April 3, 2015 at 12:00 am #5128WebMaestrexKeymasterLesson Title: Yes we can

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Class was OK. We had four learners for most of the time but then came a new student (a nursing mother) who stayed for about 15 mins because she had to go. There was some laughter, learners showed enthusiasm by wanting to continue working on the dictation activity. The highlight was welcoming back a learner who had voluntarily left a class in the past and seeing him totally engaged and willing to interact.

Materials Status (loyalty cards, alphabet sheets, etc): Replenished loyalty cards and alphabet sheets – also, found a new way to organize the loyalty cards which I think will be less frustrating.Self Evaluation

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Not a bad class.. folks came in a little late, not sure if they are kinda deciding to avoid the alphabet, or if it’s just the change in the season. Had a learner return from a while ago, it’s a little tough for him, but he can learn. Had Barbara and Ivy facilitate some of the activities while I tidied up the box and stuff. Worked with animals, great materials, I could have planned more to use it to the best effect.

Class started a few minutes late to let people show up. After that, we had the learners write down a few key words, do a listen and find with a picture of a house and it’s contents, then a round robin-like activity. What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Class had to start about five minutes late because there were no students at the beginning. We had a new student who had attended a year ago and had no loyalty card. We did Alphabet Listen & Point, Role Play Listen & Do, Dictation and then sang ‘Oregon, My Oregon’ which was a little too hard for most of us to sing but Julie was patient and somehow helped us sound better.

Then, a listen and point with a tax form, dialogue, a listen and do, and writing down a few quotes on taxes. With the dialogue, the learners wrote it down, repeated it with choral response, and practiced saying it passing the conversation around the table.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): it was really nice having jacob there, and Yani and Barbara. I was struggling to find a way to show everyone pictures, we had jacob carry a book around with some of the animals.. we did practice language like – a beaver is a rodent, so we’re working on the classification, and we did a lot of pulling the words out in everyone else’s language. Didn’t quite get to the listen and do, technique not super inspired. Also had two folks come in quite late, causing us to redo names a couple of times.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific):
This class went exceptionally well in my opinion. I was especially impressed with the multi level engagement. Sometimes I feel like the more advanced learners can get bored or not necessarily getting advanced usage or accent coaching and in this particular class I feel like we were able to get some questions answered for our advanced learners in a way that kept things interesting for them. Jane’s sentence scramble activity continues to be a great multi level activity. It’s something that everyone can participate in and get the right answers. It’s game-like, encourages all levels, and everyone gets a turn.April 13, 2015 at 3:16 pm #5453Mark GriffinSpectatorLesson Title: There’s No Place Like Home

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Good mix of students. Sam used props (tools: hammer, measuring tape, screwdrivers, etc) and visual aids (cut outs of verbs and objects that were put together as sentences by students) very effectively. This (Mr. Fix It) is a good module. Celina was shadowing.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific) Class was good. Students were encouraged all the time and seemed to enjoy. They were especially interested in doing repetitions during the listen and point using the map of Oregon. Overall a very enjoyable class.

This class began around 12:10, due to waiting for learners to arrive. Ben led Alphabet Listen & Point until Jane took charge with triplets, quads and confusable rhythms. After Yell & Spell dictation followed. We then searched a W-4 tax form and the learners located words and phrases on the document. Next came a tax word scramble, with all words relating to taxes. The learners laughed, helped and encouraged each other, and camaraderie was definitely established. After a numbers dictation and short physical exercise, class was dismissed on time.
