What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): This was one of the toughest classes I’ve had in a while. First, I was late (came at 902, and the learners were already there). Then the door was locked. There was a child who wasn’t really able to be quiet (until the end). We tried to incorporate him into the activities, and it just wasn’t working.. one of the learners wanted me to use a book about barack obama, which was cool. I had a map that was just not good, and one learner couldn’t see. We ended up trading off the child so that each person could spend a little time practicing, mostly reading/pronunciation practice. Both learners said they’d be unavailable the following class day

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Well, we did another day in the garden. I imported my folks.. and of course, it was cold, and started to rain, and we weren’t dressed for it. And the learners weren’t really into it, and worried about dirt and bugs. Bryce did great, and we did the scavenger hunt, and we ate mustard greens.. and we practiced all of this later, so it was actually a pretty good relevant lesson, but the learners were willing to play along, but not super excited. Bummer, because this could have been so good, but really just didn’t bring it together.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): it was great to have 3 learners, though I definitely imported two of them! I was a little late, because of picking them up, and was surprised because the lectura was cancelled, so only one of the learners was there, waiting. It was chilly, and we were late, so I tried the break room, which was ok for a while, until other people entered, then they were super self conscious. Was a poor choice to use that room. Still, the group got a lot of practice, and our new learner got to see how it all worked. And I was the substitute, and me and two learners got to go visit the statue of ramona, henry, and ribsy.

Mostly, I dictated the number of people who speak are limited English proficient

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): A decent class, with a bit more preparation than I’ve pulled off lately, but still my map was weird, and there were several new people, class overall was a tad higher level than usual, but they worked pretty hard. We asked the group who they thought would win the most delegates. A couple of sanders, mostly biden. The newer people did connect pretty well, which doesn’t always happen, and afterwards, connected with a couple of learners about citizenship, welcome back vulture day, and other ways to increase connections and power.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): it was great to have a returnee that we hadn’t seen for a while, and though one of ours arrived a little late. We had a nice group of helpers. Probably in retrospect, I should have split one on one, but maybe just some confusion because I didn’t prep the assistants. The second half in the classroom went in a totally different direction.. talking about the glottalized sounds in English. This caused two of the Learners to reflect on their childrens learning process. Discussion about the difficulties at home because of language barriers between family members, was a very surprising and meaningful ending.

There were payoffs in the garden, too.. it looks like one of the participants wants her own garden plot, and someone was there from the city too, who recruits people for garden plots.

Due to veteran’s day, and that schools were closed, people probably thought there was no class. two of our regulars came, though, and I was telling them about my busy day. I was really tired, so that was the best I could muster. We ended up going with past tense action verbs, which they really loved.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): again, smallish group, half were new. This makes the class difficult to get going, because everyone’s figuring out the system. Also, the bureaucratic language was not engaging, adding to the slogging feel. However, I did write a lesson for the first time in literally years, and I was early.
