What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Started with Alphabet, Yell & Spell, Today’s Lesson, Document Search – Pumpkin Pie Recipe. The next activity was a Round Robin of the question, “Have you ever had pumpkin pie?” After this went around the room, Katie opened the timer app on her phone. She timed how fast the class could go, and then tried again to see how much faster they could go. The class was really engaged with the activity, cheering each other on to do better/faster. The class really enjoyed that activity. Finally, some dictation. We then decompressed some of our post election thoughts and ideas for classes going forward. Great class.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): We did: Alphabet, Yell & Spell, Today’s Lesson, Dictation with Choral Response, This is… (Laundry soap ingredients edition), and Document Search, and a tile based word game (two teams compete to see who can make the spoken word from ‘Scrabble’ tiles).
The class went really well. Maureen paced the class very well. The dictation was the recipe for making laundry soap. We talked later about how introducing the real world items might have been better to do before hand. The learners were able to quickly adapt to some difficult new and non-standard terms like “Borax” and “Fels Naptha”. The game really engaged some of the learners competitive drives, but even the non-competitive learners were taking the opportunity to try to spell out the word after one team had gotten it.
Post class feedback went really well. Kathleen was interested in hearing about our experiences.Joseph LechugaSpectatorLesson Title: Making Change
