What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Estefania was supposed to MC today but she didn’t make it because MAX wasn’t working and it was a heavy traffic so I taught the class using her lesson plan. The class was fun and engaging. The name of today’s lesson was called “Race for the white house” one of the students not intentionally said “Race for the wife house” it brought a lot of laughter.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Maureen was very inventive and brought a game for the learners and helpers to participate in and recreate an Olympic event. She also brought in Scrabble tiles and divided the class into two teams. The teams raced each other to see who could spell several words we encountered in the dictation part of the class. Very fun and engaging class overall.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific):
Today’s lesson was especially fun. Monica, the coordinator of Nadaka Nature Park, visited the class. In fitting with the Animals Adapt module, she brought a variety of animal pelts and skulls to pass around, along with colorful butterflies. One of Monica’s summer work interns also attended the class. She joined the other learners and took part in the class activities. She seemed to especially enjoy the round robin demonstrated by her expressive, “Whaaaat?” She laughed a lot and had Monica and Patrik laughing along with her. The other learners appeared engaged as well. It was interesting to see how the PPT approach could be adapted to fit the guest’s presentation and resulted in a fun and effective class.- This reply was modified 8 years, 3 months ago by Cheryl Secomb. What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Probably one of my worst classes. The learners didn’t seem to notice anything that off but I could barely focus. There was laughing and the learners worked well together after I moved a few around but I did;t give back enough feedback to the learners. We did a lot of dictation, a dialog, and a few round robin questions.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): It was a good class. There was plenty of laughing and the class went pretty smoothly. We did a lot of writing and speaking but I wish I had done a little less of those and added something more fun. The class lacked a exciting activity to get them working together more. I did move a few learners around to make them work together more which worked perfectly. It was perfect high level/low level pattern that worked well.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Maureen brought in fun visual aids: A real puffer fish, a six-inch paper Pygmy Owl and a book with a picture of the owl. She also brought a small zip-lock bag of paper clips to demonstrate the weight of the owl (70 grams). It helped us all get a better grasp on the size and weight of the owl. Amazing! The class seemed to work well together during the dictation progression and other activities. The learners especially enjoyed the last activity which involved spelling vocabulary words from the lesson using Scrabble pieces. The group broke into two teams and joined into the competitive spirit.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific):
Cheryl S. MCed the class using the module~Your Favorite Recipe. She facilitated Alphabet Point, Yell and Spell and used a baking-themed word cloud for the document search. Learners wrote sentences having to do with preparing cookie dough ingredients. She then stated a round-robin where she passed ingredients such as chocolate chips and baking powder around the class. We then mimed actions such as stirring and measuring for learners to mimic. Class concluded with a high-energy game of “Make the Word!” using lettered tiles. Fun, collaborative, small class with cookies! -
