What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): I was happy we had a nice little group today! You never know when the schedule changes what will happen. A bit higher level than sometimes, with two learners from a private school who find that what we do is more useful for pronunciation and real world language; also, one learner excited about venezuela. We played see you in september for the back to school song, and it worked better than songs sometimes do!

KATIE’S DRESS REHEARSAL! Ta~da!!
Alphabet Point & Yell and Spell were great. Katie dictated the name of the lesson while learners wrote. She had everyone move to the giant map on the floor after removing their shoes. Learners located towns, cities and rivers by physically moving to where they were on the map. K conducted a Round Robin asking questions such as: “Have you ever been to Redmond?” K told learners where to go and by what route while learners followed directions. Class concluded with students writing dictated sentences pertaining to the size and population of counties in Oregon.September 14, 2016 at 8:29 pm #7974Ramin TokhiSpectatorLesson Title: “Labor Day”

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): it was Joseph’s first silent class! He brought peanut butter jam and a loaf of bread! Learners had to spread the peanut butter jam on a slice of a whole wheat bread! Students practiced saying what they were doing and then they ate their slice of peanut butter bread! It was incredibly fun activity! Joseph did a good job but we agreed that the lesson plan needs to have more instructions and details for the DJ to follow and it needs to be communicated before class several times!

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific):
It was a fun class today. The learners seemed to enjoy it and interacted well. The dictation challenged them with numbers when giving facts about Crater Lake. The activities were competitive and fun. The learners had to find the cards from the stack in the center of the table which had the correct answers to the questions asked by the MC. This reinforced the dictation. They did a document search on a Word Cloud which included words and pictures. They also divided into teams to play Scrabble to reinforce the words from the Word Cloud. The learners and helpers seemed to enjoy themselves and laughed together.September 21, 2016 at 6:27 pm #7997Zadok TaylorSpectatorLesson Title: How old do I look?

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific):
Today was Joseph’s Silent Class. During Alphabet Listen & Point and Yell & Spell, he used index cards with the letters. He pointed to the letters as Cheryl called them out. Cheryl dictated the “Today’s Lesson Is Called . . . ” activity from Joseph’s lesson plan. Joseph passed out summer roll recipes. Cheryl encouraged the learners to say, “Take one, pass it down.” Joseph and Cheryl modeled the round robin, passing around ingredients to the recipe. “This is a lime.” “A what?” “A lime.” “Oh, a lime.” Joseph who is most likely good at charades showed rather than told the dialogue. Joseph then demonstrated the recipe with Cheryl describing his actions and encouraging a choral response. “He is peeling the lime.” “He is mixing the ingredients.” And so on. This was followed by a Word search puzzle with vocabulary from the recipe. Joseph led a Listen and Do, demonstrating verbs associated with cooking and eating. Finally, we ended the class with a combined document search, choral response and having the learners individually repeat the sentences. It was a challenging and fun class! -
