What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): I invited a refugee from Burma with whom I am paired up through a capstone class at PSU. I have to show him important places in my life and so I invited him to my class at Irvington Elementary. He seemed to enjoy the class. I had a hard time finding the PPT tool box with loyalty cards but it was my fault. I did not communicate with Keli or other teachers about that question. Eventually, I figured it out. The class was fun and everyone enjoyed the complexity of the sentences and emergency phrases that I used for dictation.

Deborah brought a game like activity where students had to point to written names of vegetables and fruits then match the number that each fruit and vegetable had to the corresponding picture of those fruits and vegetables. At some point learners were teaching each other the names of the fruits and vegetables in their own languages.

Before going into Listen and point activity, he read a sentence and had the students to do choral response afterwards he asked the students to read the sentences. Also, one of the learners had to leave early because that person’s bus pass was gonna be expire at 7pm so that person left at 6:45pm.

Robert’s dictation had a singular third person pronoun with future tense contraction such as “it’ll” it was confusing for many learners, the pronunciation as well as writing of it was complicated and something new for the learners so it was useful to be exposed that grammatical aspect for the first time.

Many learners were confused by the word tomatillo and they indicated that it sounds like a Spanish word. Izzy’s pace with the class seemed to be too quick for this large and different level group. Overall, good class, learners seemed to enjoy it.
