Preparation: Forgot to Show Up (1) vs. Every Hair In Place (10) = 5
Technique: Completely Incompetent (1) vs. Flawless Delivery (10) = 4
Engagement: Snoring Loudly (1) vs. Absolutely Riveted (10) = 4
    Connection: Open Hostility (1) vs. Kumbayah (10) = 5
    Poise: Charlie Brown (1) vs. Prince (10) = 4
    Reflection: “It was ok.” (1) vs. Life-changing Epiphany (10) = 4

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): The class was ok until we started writing from a video about hop faspass, the sentences seemed too difficult for the learners. We got through the sentences, but I felt that it disengaged the learners. I wasn’t happy with my performance with this one. On the bright side I had 9 learners, one of which was a Spanish speaker the rest all Russian speakers.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): We had a TEFL student who wanted to observe the class to fulfill his TEFL observation requirement hours. They didn’t register on the website. Rockwood library directed them to my class. I made a mistake by giving him two options with their observation (participate in our class or take notes while seating in the back) sitting in the back and taking notes will scare the students away so never ever do that. Always ask the shadowers or observers to participate, unless there is a agreed upon circumstance where it is allowed.

I brought apples talk practice the different types of apples and their names. I gave all of the apples to the learners and they were grateful!

Learners were engaged and were laughing when they had to repeat long sentences because the first couple tries were not in unison, but eventually they repeated clearly, loudly and in unison.

We started a little bit late because the learners had to fill out their registration forms. The learners enjoyed their first experience learning English and working together.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Good class today! We learned the names of the continents and pointed out various well-known countries on each one. We did a dictation/round robin with interesting facts of each of the continents. We talked about Mongolia and what
nomadic means and I learned a bit about the Hmong culture/way of life from one of the learners. Overall they seemed very interested and engaged and we will continue with this theme next week :)

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Meh, not the best class back after a break- I was a little off, they seemed tired and it was cold in the building! They were telling me it was even colder in the factory and didn’t seem too happy about it (they have also all been working a lot of overtime so they seemed tired). Also, I had a cool idea to do a module on world cultures, where we’d learn about different customs/traditions of various cultures talking about differences, unique interesting facts, etc.. but the truth is, I didn’t plan very well and got overwhelmed and nervous before the class so I totally ditched and threw together a plan during lunch break. All in all it was fine and I know we’ll get back into the swing of things, it just was one of those ‘not very bueno’ classes- it happens! The cool thing about the class was we did have a few side discussions about issues relevant to them so ultimately I guess having that space every once in a while is totally fine as long as no one is lost- and… no one was :)
