Date of Class: 11/5/19
Time of Class: 9 am.
Volunteers/Facilitators: May
Participants/Parents:5 Chinese, 1 Vietnamese, 1 Russian, 1 Native, 1 Spanish
Number of Kids: 10
What did you do: I took care of kids and played with them. I chatted with moms. Also, I taught English to the Vietnamese speaker. She tried to tell me a story when she was at home, so I corrected her sentences and asked her to keep repeating. I told her to keep repeating ketchup and mustard. There was a Chinese mom who sat there and tried to repeat ketchup and mustard to her child too. I asked her to keep saying and remember one sentence and ketchup and mustard for telling Goeun on Thursday. What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): There were making the dough, sandbox, kitchen toys, painting table, shaped puzzles, doll zone, and learning colors and alphabets which were there for children. This day was not a big group as usual. Moms seemed more comfortable with me around there. They encouraged their children to play with me and asked me to watch them for a couple of minutes. I helped Emma with giving food, clean tables, and collected chairs as well as joining TPR and song activities. Children were fun to sing a song with others.

The MC taught how to read the streets’ name and practiced pronunciation. The MC gave commands and directions. Learners dictated them down and practiced to give directions to the class, and this activity was TPR. We worked as a partner first, and then as a group. One was blindfolded and got a direction to find an object that the MC placed in a class, and another one gave directions that we dictated. It was a fun activity because learners could learn and remember while playing a game.

The MC said sentences, and learners dictated and guessed what it was. It was an interesting activity because learners enjoyed writing those clues and guesses what it was. Also, we did a bingo game as well, so learners could learn more difficult words through a game. The MC also had a recorded voicemail for making an appointment to set up a parent-teacher conference which was helpful. Learners listened to the voicemail from the MC, dictated sentence by sentence, and practiced speaking those sentences.
