What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): We learned about how to make a plan for a family when there is an earthquake. We had fun a lot while doing round robin. Learners always helped each other. I encouraged the higher leaner to translate into their native language for the beginner learner. We did not have time to make a plan for their family, but they were interested to do at their home which was good because it is the purpose of the class to help learners to be prepared in advance for an emergency.

    Date of Class: 11/19/19
    Time of Class: 9 am.
    Volunteers/Facilitators: May
    Participants/Parents: 1 Spanish 3 Russian 8 Chinese
    Number of Kids: 12
What did you do: I helped set-up the dough station, as well as cleaned up before snack time. I took care of and played with some children. I also got to talk for a while with the Spanish mom and Russian mom who I don’t usually talk much since I focused more on the Vietnamese mom. Many children feel more comfortable with me because they kept hugging and playing with me without their mom being around.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): The Vietnamese mom did not come that day which was unusual. I talked to the Spanish mom. Although she spoke English well, she seemed struggling and asked help from Emma to interpret her idea when it came to more serious topics about taking care of children in her culture. I felt that was interested because I thought she was very fluency. This made me pay more attention when I was talking to other moms.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): We did a round robin and dictated about Native Americans. I brought a handout that told the story of Native Americans. Learners didn’t want to just do listen and point, they wanted to read the article, so we read. I asked learners to read, and after each paragraph, we discussed the meaning. I also asked the higher learner to translate into their native language to another learner. They both discussed the article I gave, as well as their history. We played bingo with vocabulary to wrap up what we learned today.

What did you do: I spent a lot of time talked to a new Chinese mom that I haven’t met before. We talked about her daughter and her son. I also taught a Vietnamese mom a new sentence and tried to review what Koeun taught her last time. Some moms are familiar to me, so we talked about what happened at home with their children.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): There were so many people today, so it was a busy day. I took care and played with many children because moms are talking to each other and felt more comfortable to leave their children to play with me. I tried to talk with a Vietnamese speaker as much as I could, but there were so many people and children. Some of them left before the singing time. Today, we only did 2 songs which children seemed more fun because there were so many children and moms sang together. One of the songs we sand called the spider that is also translated into the Thai version as well.
