What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Keli did a very fine job offering after initial letter calls,(doubles & triplets) of building a strong base of specific suggestions, such as reading to a child at bedtime, going to the local library, using board games (props included here). Through dictation, Round Robins and choral responses, learners became aware of resources and methods to stimulate and improve their childrenś reading skills and readiness to read.Word search activity with the word, ¨WEATHER;”make as many words as you can from the letters in weather within two minutes.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): After initial alphabet letter call & point, we did yell and spell with each personś first name in Round Robin, until all present were identified. Dictation followed that included:” Leaves on trees change color. Squirrels gather nuts and bury them. Temperatures grow colder in the Fall/Autumn.Students return to school in the Fall. More RoundRobins with props of branch with leaves, a stuffed toy animal squirrel. Choral responses were also used for the dictation sentences. In conclusion, a printed handout was given to all, after playing the musical score of Ẅake Me Up When September Ends,”by Green Dayby songwriters: Michael Pritchard, Frank E., Lii Wright and Billie Joe Armstrong. The lyrics of this song generated a pensive thoughtfulness for all present. Learners reflected this mood as they absorbed the feelings in the music.Lizzy exhibited a wonderful sense of this subject which effectively conveyed the general theme of ¨change.¨

Keli realized mid class that she had erred in not bringing tactile plants samples, so as to better engage Patrick Elijah. There was connection between high/lower level learners- Overall a great class. Happy to be back at it!

Their host agent arrived prior to them, and was very anxious to be sure we were well-acquainted with who they were. I learned that they were sponsored into this country through the U.S. State Dept. and go on from here to MInneapolis; arrived here from D.C. There was a great deal of chuckling banter about the list of American holidays and the role playing portion of President Barack Obama. All interacted well with one another.
Janet G. did a very fine job of including the Ukrainian women, integgrating them fully into class participation.

Ready responses used several times. The title of today’s lesson was reinforced several times with a printed handout (two pages) utilizing word searches on these two sheets, front and back. Rhyming guidelines were dictated: “Stop the poison before it stops you.” “Don’t wait, refrigerate!” “If in doubt, throw it out.” After a brief video on keeping a clean kitchen free of germs, bacteria, class was asked to view and briefly describe two actual photographs of a meat section and a produce section in an actual grocery (round robin style). This is a repeat report (2nd version) because I omitted the first section inadvertently. DJ, William S.
