What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): We had a very enthusiastic group of learners today. They are really getting in the swing of things and taking the initiative to help one another and practice vocabulary and dialogue without any prompting. There were lots of social interactions/ conversations in English between different cultures happening in this class. We finished with a search of a downtown map, finding destinations and naming their cross streets.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific):
Was not our best class, but was able to make it through. Alot of new faces and some folks came in late. New people can be introverted or shy but by the end of the first class or the middle of the second one, they get into the groove of things. Will have to move some students around to get the more advanced students helping the newer students. Using the thin tables in the big room really helps getting everyone interacting with each other. I can not recall the name of the person that shadowed.2015-07-23 at 20:50 #5824WilLIAM SeeSpectatorLesson Title: “When eating a fruit, think of the person who planted the tree.”

Activity of actually making berry jam, after the normal beginning with alphabet sheets, name intro’s (round robin style);; a significant amount of physical movement between classroom set up and the staging area where the jam was made. We circled up at the end and went through motions of crushing berries, stirring the sugar, spreading the jam, cutting the bread. A lot of laughter ensued as we all joined in this activity.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): The class was big there were 18 students, we were in the small room there were some people that were sitting behind other classmates, we kept bringing chairs from the other room, this was a tad disruptive but we achieved we had 4 helpers they were very efficient at their tasks, everyone was engaged and lively very fun class, it seems that the big room is going to be occupied often, I was thinking that maybe removing the big table and setting the small tables and arranging them as needed would occupy less space and more people could be sitting at the narrower tables and we would use that small space more efficiently with the big square table gone,, anyway just thinking out loud…also we need attendance cards and pencils if someone can make it happen it will be greatly appreciated……

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Began on time with alphabet sheets, next with 1st name spelling and question: What’s her/his name? Ready responses used several times. The title of today’s lesson was reinforced several times with a printed handout (two pages) utilizing word searches on these two sheets, front and back. Rhyming guidelines were dictated: “Stop the poison before it stops you.” “Don’t wait, refrigerate!” “If in doubt, throw it out.” After a brief video on keeping a clean kitchen free of germs, bacteria, class was asked to view and briefly describe two actual photographs of a meat section and a produce section in an actual grocery (round robin style). This is a repeat report (2nd version) because I omitted the first section inadvertently. DJ, William S.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): We had a little lower than average number of learners today, but still a good group. Jane included a new activity, in which learners had to actually follow the procedure of food safety and wash their hands using the sink that is in the large room. We used dialogs and ended the class with a listen & do activity using verbs related to food preparation. Learners were engaged and Janet did very well planning the class even though when she didn’t have much time because I was thought to be the MC today.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): We invited the DMA folks to bring food and meet the community. It worked out pretty well.. there were challenges.. two assistants left, and one learner left – she does freqently, but it felt like she wasn’t feeling it that day. But the food was good, and we got the community interested.. it totally worked for our main objective. We did forget to take attendance, so this class is almost a month late in updating, so it gets a 1.
