What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): During this class, we took the learners to the park since Unite Oregon was having a meeting in their space. It was great getting to go outside on such a nice day, but it did get pretty cold near the end. As for the lesson, we sent the class time playing a game with the learners. The game was like wheel of fortune where the instructors created sentences that were blank and the learners guessed the letters to fill in the blank. After giving a letter, they were given a chance to guess what the sentence or phrase is and it went around in circles until the blank was solved. After the sentence/phrase was solved, the learners were asked to come up with an accompanying question or sentence and wrote it down in their notebooks. Overall, the learners had a fun time and really enjoyed the game.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): For today’s lesson, the focus was on teaching the learners about pedestrian safety. This was done through document searches with the informational brochures and watching the Vision Zero awareness video. The students asked a good number of verifying questions about the topic and were engaged with each other. The lesson did not match May’s Thursday module and theme because Izzy did not receive the curriculum email.

Materials Status (loyalty cards, alphabet sheets, etc): I printed out 10 more alphabet sheets and there were enough extra loyalty cards, however, there were no self-reflection forms available for me to fill out so I took a blank sheet of paper and wrote all of the reflection down on that.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific):
For this class, the students were introduced to an emergency disaster kit. Brian brought a backpack into the class that was filled with the emergency disaster necessities like a first aid kit and a water filter and the students were asked to determine what those items were in the bag and how to spell the word. Then, once students were familiar with the items in the kit, Brian explained to them why it was important to have one (like to prepare for the big earthquake) and the students were asked whether they had one in their homes. To end the class, Brian gave the students a few Red Cross links that they could check out to start building their own kits.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): In class, we went through the alphabet combinations and spelled our names. We also had learners repeat sentences describing various things about movies like how they can be expensive or that we eat popcorn at the movies. After this short discussion, we introduced the learners to Tom Hanks and this included naming a few of his hit movies and having students repeat and write down quotes from the movie, Forrest Gump.
