What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Very small class. A few learners showed up by 6:15 and we got going. Lots of opportunity for both dialogue, practice and dictation. I really appreciated the way Lizzy expanded upon the 211 service and how many different types of information can be accessed in many languages. It was wonderful to have May in the class. She was very engaged and participated wonderfully, but I fear she may have left with more of a ‘learner’ experience as opposed to a ‘shadower’ experience, if that can be a thing? One learner in particular really pushed himself this evening; I could see that he made a concerted effort to work out the dictation on his own. Very inspiring!

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Our first Thursday back at Irvington and we had nine learners. 9 LEARNERS!!! This was due in part to a very successful summer and both Rosa and Aurelia’s efforts. Everyone seemed a little off, most likely due to the pull of the harvest moon and the loss of light as we move further into fall. Despite slightly less engagement from learners, we generally always have connection between the learners, who are excellent at supporting not only one another, but the new learners coming in. Llizzy was amazing and reached out to a Spanish-speaking friend, who helped her craft a message, addressing the recent natural disasters in Florida, Texas, Mexico and the Caribbean as well as the hope that if any of our learners had family directly affected that they were ok. This was a great way to ground the group in the subject matter and current events, before jumping into the lesson and drove home the importance of having a very basic kit (water, food, flashlight, batteries, first aid, etc) ready in the event we were to experience one here in Portland. Excellent job, Lizzy!!!

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): The class began when the first learner arrived, appx 6:10. By the end of the class we had 6 total learners, 2 brand new. Lizzy was very together and confident, especially for being only her 2nd time MCing. Amazing! We suggested she use a slightly louder voice and remember to use the ‘Ready?’ prompt more often. All in all, a great class!

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific):
The class started at about 6:10. The learners all did a great job staying engaged despite the fact that the Oscar Romero room is warm, even with the fans. Kate did an excellent job as MC, incorporating a great mix of dictation and dialogue practice, and using Scrabble cards for spelling practice in disguised as fun. I think it was just what we’ve been needing on Thursdays to shake it up. The content was very simple but the practice so important. It also brought up interesting questions during reflection around why some learners might not feel comfortable to call 911. A great reminder to consider multiple perspectives in this work, always. My son, Severin, had to join us due to lack of childcare this evening, and I really appreciated the way Kate made an effort to include him in the lesson, and he LOVED meeting everyone.Keli CookSpectatorLesson Title: Oregon Native Plants

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but
First class back after a long winter break. Small, with 2 lear ers and 5 teachers. To take the pressure off the learners we sat down with them, instead of standing over them. There was a lot of information and I think it was received well. Perhaps we could have done more role playing to practice responding to hypothetical ICE agents, but other than that, the class went well.Keli CookSpectatorLesson Title: Winter Storm Warning

Tonight was David’s dresss rehearsal. He did a great job, particularly in giving immediate feedback to learners. We discussed the need for a little less dictation and more choral response. We had 3 learners tonight-up from last week, but down in general. Great class! -
