What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Lizzy was having an official observation by Ramin. I found it to be a very supportive experience; Ramin’s few interventions where gentle and not at all intrusive. It was a small class, but Lizzy kept our activities varied so that learners felt engaged and motivated. Fernando was our shadower and brought some fantastic energy to the class. Excellent job as usual, Lizzy!

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): What a pleasure to work with Ramin this evening! I appreciate his ability to keep the momentum and pacing up, while also making sure to engage individually with each learner. I also appreciate the way his experience, or perhaps just plain ‘ol talent, affords him the ability to focus not so much on the content but on the execution of each activity. Our learners were engaged, in spite of the heat, including 1 big kid and 1 little who was such a trooper! Great class
Also- please note that the attendance for this class has 2 incomplete learner id #’s. I forgot to get the surnames of 2 newer learners. It is my hope that perhaps with what I have provided, someone may be able to complete them through the process of elimination??

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Qrysi led us in a wonderful class re; The Citizenship Test. She mixed it up with both dictation and dialogue, we moved our bodies and covered a great amount of important information on the test such as famous people, branches of the U.S. government as well as states that border both Mexico and Canada. Despite the heat and change of location on the St. Andrews campus, we had a very lively class and everyone enjoyed themselves. The only barrier being that the table set up doesn’t leave much room for flexibility in movement, but everyone worked together wonderfully as always.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): What a great first summer class at St. Andrews! 8 learners (and a 3 year old learner as well), 5 assistants. Everyone was happy to be back at it after our hiatus. Lots of enthusiasm. It was wonderful to have so many people assisting with so many learners. This is such a lovely and motivated community. Lizzy did an excellent job of creating a good, clear balance of speaking and writing practice. We ran out of time to do the worksheet, but it was a great foundation to build on for the rest of the month. Looking forward to many more classes at this location.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Keli began the class by taking the learners to watch the Aztec Dancers at Irvington’s Multicultural Celebration. This was a little unexpected for everyone as she forgot to make mention of it earlier. It timed out well as Santiago was stuck in traffic and by the time we returned from the performance, he had joined us. We jumped right in to a class re: volunteering for elections.
Santi specifically made it very clear in the first Round Robin that you need only to live in the U.S. to volunteer for elections or candidates. He had a great number of physical props and did both some ‘this is a’…as well as some dictation. I noticed that Santiago, despite not having taught this class before and being thrown off a bit by circumstance, was energetic and incredibly supportive of each learner. I Being that it was our last class, every learner brought some food, including some delicious homemade tamales! It was excellent to finally meet Santiago, as well as Zoe. Laurel will be a fantastic addition to PPT. She has an exuberant charm about her. She’s super easy going and works really well with most of our learners, who are generally 2-3x her age. Alba is eager to continue volunteering her time when we classes resume in July at St. Andrews. Enjoy a little extra time in June, dear PPT peeps. See you in July. Peace!

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Great class tonight with 5 learners! Laurel shadowed again and was a great addition to the class. One of our learners brought ice cream to celebrate the day, which was Mother’s Day in Mexico. The learners were challenged by some of the word pronunciations- healthier/heathy/helping all seemed to be difficult words to discern from each other, as well as the challenge to say ‘volunteer’ and using the ‘th’ sound. Brooke was there to evaluate Lizzy but it wasn’t clear to me what for. Great class as usual, Lizzy!

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): It was great to see some of the learners who attended the spaghetti dinner come back for class this week. Lizzy did an excellent job of connecting basic ideas about the benefits/drawbacks of usual social media-
Connection to the world vs disconnection/isolation of individuals in close proximity to one another. It was cool to see the connections learners were making to the concept, which I think was a statement about the way the lesson was simply organized.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): In lieu of our usual class, we ate a spaghetti dinner together. The school was holding the annual Spaghetti Dinner, so the learners/Mc/Dj, etc, grabbed some dinner from the cafeteria and returned to the library to enjoy a meal and conversation together. It was a great way to deepen our connections by getting to know one another.

Lizzy was fantastic, as usual, and kept it simply but interesting. Tiffany, our shadower, noted that the class had a great energy and a good assistant to learner ratio. I liked the addition of dictating vocabulary which was then used in a word search. Excellent variety in activities. We were joined by one of our beloved learners who has been out for awhile and she was embraced by everyone. So glad to have her back!

It was great to start the year off with so many new faces. Lizzy reflected that she would like to do some more learning about how to engage such low level learners with respect and consideration. All in all, the class went well, with higher level learners really engaging with our new friends. It was great. The only downside is the frustration with the box continuing to disappear. We have gone for months without anyone bothering it. I’m unclear as to why this keeps happening, but when we have to rotate facilitators, this seems to become an issue.
