What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Class started about five minutes late due to learners arrival. We started we alphabet & listen and point, then listened to the song The shot heard round the world and practiced pronunciation of key words. Next we did word scramble and finished with TPR which was specially fun as we sang ‘Head, shoulders, knees and toes’ and played ‘Do what I say but not what I do’. Jane was able to manage the extraordinary circumstance of unexpectedly having her iPad not cooperate with the class because of a feature called ‘screen curtain’ which made the screen not display any image at all, but she moved on with the other activities and all was good.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Class started and ended on time. It was the Joshua’s second silent class and it was smoother this time. It was more poised and we were all very connected. We noticed how one of the learners has remarkably progressed when she was able to write by herself with confidence and almost without spelling mistakes. It was very enjoyable.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): It was very fun and interesting to be the DJ in a silent class for the MC. It helps train nerves to always remain calm even though we face the worst scenario in a class. We had to deal with the absence of voice to communicate with Joshua but we relied on miming, body language and on a very detailed lesson plan. Engagement was really good.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Class started with Alphabet Listen & Point for the first 20 minutes. We had to go slow at times to let the new learner catch up. Monica tried a very practical drill with the different types of coins, adding them and getting different values. The dialog was simple enough and fun. There was a very good level of connection which was excellent to allow smooth transitions during the activities and an enjoyable class.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): It was a good class. Franz was very confident and he maintained a good level of energy and engagement during the class. After the first 20 minutes a new learner arrived and the class had to slow down a bit because she was a slow learner but we made her feel welcome and encouraged neighbor learners to help as well. About 10 to 7:30 we had done all the the activities on the lesson plan, including the Listen & Do which was especially fun, and then tried again a little of an Alphabet, Listen and Point until the end.

We had a new student who had attended a year ago and had no loyalty card. We did Alphabet Listen & Point, Role Play Listen & Do, Dictation and then sang ‘Oregon, My Oregon’ which was a little too hard for most of us to sing but Julie was patient and somehow helped us sound better.

We had a rather small class as it has become usual for Mondays, but we were happy to welcome three new learners. Sheila was excelent: she created the environment for a multigrade class and peer teaching. There was a slow learner but we did not loose track of her, provided constant positive reinforcement and made her feel more confident. Glemn was absolutely helpful as always, he took care of making the needed loyalty cards. Celina did a great job reinforcing learners, modeling sentences and providing timely feedback. We started the class with three completely new learners, and by last 40-45 minutes we had three more new students! The use of realia realia worked wonderfully motivating and engaging students. There was a variety of levels present but the higher ones were very friendly and cooperative and even though the weaker ones struggled, they did not feel down but showed enthusiasm, smiled all the time and repeated the lines over a over until they felt more comfortable with their pronunciation. At the end Mark shared a delishious treat with the students: white and green cookies to celebrate St. Patrick’s and even shamrock napkins!Copy the text below and paste into a comment, then fill it out! What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Mark prepared very well for the class. He brought interesting materials, played such an amusing song which emcompassed the title and focus of the lesson. It worked perfectly as an energy booster and a connection bridging tool. We had a weird moment, though, when one learner who had arrived late, left the class and did not return. He later told me that class for being too fast for him. I apologized and tried to persuade him but he said he was not going back to the class, that we would attend a different time. What I think is that he was probably having a difficult day because he was next to a fast learner, copying from him. I chose to move away to another side of the table and let his classmate help him but we failed to notice his body language. Other than that class was smooth, learners laughed, worked together and seemed to enjoy.

This was an atypical class as we had only two students but that was not a problem since Sheila did a great job boosting and maintaining the energy level of the class. Glemn was really helpful doing positive reinforcement and after class feedback. Listen & Do activity was especially fun and engaging; doing the funky chicken was hilarious.
