What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Zadok started with the alphabet sheet and then did a document search about salmon. Then we read the sentences and looked at a picture of a fish and thought about if the sentences were true or false. Then we wrote down a recipe for salmon fillet. We ended with a fun question and response dialogue. Overall good class.

Then we mixed them up and the students read a different one. After that Priya dictated the steps of how to get your citizenship. Then we ended it with a document search. Great class!

Then we looked at a photo of a street with a “Meals on Wheels” building and practiced the different things on that street. Then we did a document search of different resources in the community. Everyone was engaged and laughing throughout the class.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): I started the class with the alphabet sheet. Then we reviewed the vocabulary from the last 3 weeks about thanksgiving meals. First they wrote the voacb down, then we made hand signs for each one. Then I had the words written down on cards and we played the game “memory” with them. We ended with a conversation about setting up for thanksgiving.

Watched a video on how to cook a turkey, and then learners wrote down new vocabulary words from video. Played a game at the end where learners had to order the steps of how to make a turkey.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Tonight was the first class at Kinnaman. Zadok explained at the beginning how we point to the alphabet sheets as he says the letters. Then he emphasized the importance of repeating ready after he says it. Then we read about the true meaning of Columbus Day and watched a short video on it through the lenses of the indigenous people whose ancestors came before Columbus. We wrapped up the class with show and do.

The class started promptly at 6:00 with the alphabet sheet and followed by yell and spell with first and last names. To help the students get energized we did “head, shoulders, knees and toes,” and reviewed North, South, East, and West. For the next hour we worked a lot on writing down the dictation for the safety procedures on receiving your food handlers card. The group worked well together and helped each other the entire time. We ended the class with a fun activity where they had to listen and follow Yani’s instructions about where to stand in the room. Overall a very successful class. -
