Then we mixed them up and the students read a different one. After that Priya dictated the steps of how to get your citizenship. Then we ended it with a document search. Great class!

Next we did everybody’s names and the title of the lesson. Charlie had brought a new and very engaging activity plan which had some famous president’s and their respective political parties. This was followed by a dictation exercise in which the students had to fill in some blanks in the prewritten dialogues. This was followed by a choral repetition of these dialogues. The students were engaged and entertained throughout the class.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): We discussed the state flower, tree and what it meant to have symbols that represent your country, state or city. We followed the basic lesson plan and also had food. We also talked about what the learners cities/regions were “known for” and explained the meaning of that English phrase. As we discussed the things their areas are known for we realized that one of the learners (Irma) is from a part of Mexico where only a small remaining group still speak the original language. She didn’t know/learn Spanish till she got older and still speaks this native language because her husband is from the same area.
