Preparation: Forgot to Show Up (1) vs. Every Hair In Place (10) = 7
Technique: Completely Incompetent (1) vs. Flawless Delivery (10) = 5

    Connection: Open Hostility (1) vs. Kumbayah (10) = 4
    Poise: Charlie Brown (1) vs. Prince (10) = 4
    Reflection: “It was ok.” (1) vs. Life-changing Epiphany (10) = 4

    Total Score: 30

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Today Charlie did an unplanned Gentle Intervention. Patrik did some interrupting early on which threw Charlie off a little, but we both recovered well. The dictation was long – one of the learners said “sometimes the shorter words are harder”. Good feeling in the room and clapping as we finished off with a movement activity embodying spatial prepositions and relationships.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Owen was a bit nervous & antsy. At first he started with the letters a bit too fast…(first time) but withe 4 new students, even nore need to go slower. Owen brought maps, which he got learners to work together like a Team to find certain locations,.. It even forced the more quiet one to get excited.. We did dialogue… Students asking each other if they prefer to ride the max or drive?? Lots of laughter….

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): these students are very supportive of one another and very engaged. concept of class was good, as was the use of props (apple, garlic, pictures of vegetables). This also is a very diverse class culturally but at the same time, most learners seem to be at the same level. Higher level learners are very helpful with lower proficiency learners. As a sidenote, the family of one of the students, Shahida Shukur, was featured in WW this week. See page 22. A Rohingya refugee from Myanmar, via Malaysia.

Being that it was Grace’s last day, many students brought food to show their appreciation towards her. Some arrived late due to that.. The entire class was welcoming to the new student and helpful by sharing their notes. During the time we were playing scramble… Grace by accident gave away the answer, “avocado”///and the whole class burst out into laughter…. Showing the students even us teachers can make mistakes. Overall, the class was a, “Sweet & Sorrow” goodbye… we even took group pictures./… students signed a card for her as well…
