The class was small, but we had enough students so that we were able to play some games that incorporated reading/document searching and dialogues. MC did a good job leaving enough breathing room so that natural conversations could crop up, giving students some really practical…practice.

How Many Learners: 15
Materials Status (loyalty cards, alphabet sheets, etc): GoodSelf Evaluation
Preparation: Forgot to Show Up (1) vs. Every Hair In Place (10) = 7
Technique: Completely Incompetent (1) vs. Flawless Delivery (10) = 7
Engagement: Snoring Loudly (1) vs. Absolutely Riveted (10) = 7
Connection: Open Hostility (1) vs. Kumbayah (10) = 6
Poise: Charlie Brown (1) vs. Prince (10) = 6
Reflection: “It was ok.” (1) vs. Life-changing Epiphany (10) = 7What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Today we focused on what can happen and what to do in the event of an earthquake. The class had mostly mid- and high-level learners, so it moved pretty quickly. We started with a listening activity that incorporated some type, which seemed to engage learners well. A second tpr activity (practicing drop, cover, hold on) didn’t take as long as anticipated, so MC had to fill in extra time with additional dictation activities. Students were laughing, poking fun at each other and helping each other out throughout class, so it was super energetic and dynamic. Some colloquialisms were confusing to learners, but many asked for explanations, so it worked out to be a good learning opportunity for students and facilitators alike.

Time of Class: 6:00 PM
MC: RaminPolyglotMaestro
DJ: ShelleySincereLearner
Assistants/Shadowers/Auditioner: Millicent
Module: Healthy Homes
How Many Learners: 18
Materials Status (loyalty cards, alphabet sheets, etc): Made copies of ABC sheet. Everything else seemed in order.Self Evaluation
Preparation: Forgot to Show Up (1) vs. Every Hair In Place (10) = 4
Technique: Completely Incompetent (1) vs. Flawless Delivery (10) = 6
Engagement: Snoring Loudly (1) vs. Absolutely Riveted (10) = 7
Connection: Open Hostility (1) vs. Kumbayah (10) = 7
Poise: Charlie Brown (1) vs. Prince (10) = 6
Reflection: “It was ok.” (1) vs. Life-changing Epiphany (10) = 6What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Today we talked about causes of household mold, its hazards and ways to prevent it. MC was running late but informed DJ well in advance. The class was totally huge and included some new learners, so we had to make copies of ABC sheet and lesson materials on the fly. Luckily, students were super engaged in the content, so everything moved pretty fluidly despite the running around. The classroom was pretty packed, so floating around to check work and answer questions was logistically a little tricky, but as usual with the Midland group, learners were keen on helping each other, and we were able to move along at a steady pace anyhow. A solid class overall.

MC: DanielGoofyProfessor

Assistants/Shadowers/Auditioner:
Module: Powers of Congress – Impeachment
How Many Learners: 14
Materials Status (loyalty cards, alphabet sheets, etc): Made more copies of ABC sheet and self-eval sheet. There wasn’t a copy of the attendance sheet, so I was not able to make copies of that one.Self Evaluation
Preparation: Forgot to Show Up (1) vs. Every Hair In Place (10) = 7
Technique: Completely Incompetent (1) vs. Flawless Delivery (10) = 7
Engagement: Snoring Loudly (1) vs. Absolutely Riveted (10) = 7
Connection: Open Hostility (1) vs. Kumbayah (10) = 6
Poise: Charlie Brown (1) vs. Prince (10) = 7
Reflection: “It was ok.” (1) vs. Life-changing Epiphany (10) = 7What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Today we discussed Congress’s impeachment inquiry. The lesson included vocabulary related to impeachment and a fun listening activity. Students were mostly engaged and enthusiastic. There was a wide spread in learner levels, but overall the class moved swiftly and there weren’t super long periods of advanced students waiting for beginner students. The listening activity incorporated some TPR, which was a great way to break up today’s writing and give learners a change of pace. We had some tech trouble, but MC Daniel kept things moving smoothly.

Date of Class: Sep 05, 2019
Time of Class: 6:00 PM
MC: ConallFocusedPoliticalstrategist
DJ: ShelleySincereLearner
Assistants/Shadowers/Auditioner: Madelynn
Module: Pikas and Swifts! Animals Adapt
How Many Learners: 15
Materials Status (loyalty cards, alphabet sheets, etc): All good. We’re running low on extra loyalty cards at Midland.Self Evaluation
Preparation: Forgot to Show Up (1) vs. Every Hair In Place (10) = 7
Technique: Completely Incompetent (1) vs. Flawless Delivery (10) = 5
Engagement: Snoring Loudly (1) vs. Absolutely Riveted (10) = 7
Connection: Open Hostility (1) vs. Kumbayah (10) = 7
Poise: Charlie Brown (1) vs. Prince (10) = 6
Reflection: “It was ok.” (1) vs. Life-changing Epiphany (10) = 8What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Today we talked about pikas, how they adapt to different weather conditions, and how they are different from humans. Class engagement was good. Some students showed up late, which slowed/disrupted the alphabet sheet activity. MC, DJ, and Shadower discussed ways to keep everyone in track when this happens. Experienced students did a good job helping newer students. First-time students chatted a lot throughout the class and didn’t latch on to “Ready.” MC, DJ, and Shadower discussed ways to keep the class moving quickly and keep everyone on the same page by really emphasizing “Ready!” technique. Some students struggled with writing, which slowed things down, but overall, students were engaged, had high energy, and helped each other with dictation and comprehension
