What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): We started with the alphabet sheet, then yell and spell. After this, we listened to “winter wonderland” and then Brenna Dictated a few verses of lyrics. We sang along with the song afterwards. Ended the class with Brenna reading a paragraph on the winter Olympics while students followed along followed by a word search with Winter Olympics vocab words. Students didn’t know many of these: (luge, skeleton, biathlon, etc.) The new learner, Maria, cannot write or spell her name easily and speaks very quietly. Cuc helped her along as best she could, but Maria ultimately didn’t write anything for most of the dictation and needed help on the alphabet sheet as well. Tony spoke a lot of Spanish with Guillermo, who was working through the dictation slower than the others.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific):
We went through the Alphabet exercise and yell & spell as normal. After, we dictated address numbers then dictated and practiced saying 3 mini dialogues pertaining to finding places / asking for and receiving address information for places. We ended with a TPR game involving scarves, gloves, canned food, and other winter related items. Students struggled with the ways we say numbers differently when they are addresses. Moreover, ordinal numbers such as 5th and 2nd took longer to dictate than others.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific):
We went through the Alphabet/listen and point for a bit, then moved on to the yell and spell. We spent approximately 15 minutes on the document search, then moved on to dictating recipes. Learners shared recipes they brought from home and explained after the dictation how to go through the steps. We learned how to make a black forest cake and some fish ceviche. We ended with an activity consisting of listening to a song and having the MC dictate some of the lines, then play it over again after the students wrote it down. After the class, several of the students wished the MC a happy holiday and expressed their thanks / desire to come back after the holiday break.

This was the first class that a male came to that I have seen at Kinnaman. The male learner was less animated during the the listen and do activity, spoke quieter during choral response exercises. Several of the learners stayed afterwards to chat with each other- something I have seen at Kinnaman recently.
