What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): The MC prepared a lesson the previous night, but we were told hours before the class that we would have a guest speaker which led the MC to adapt her lesson plan to include the guest. We had one new learner. The alphabet sheet went a little too fast and had a string of combinations that were too complex for some of the students to follow along to. The guest speaker was able to share some information about herself and some things that the library offers. We did a document search of the current library programs and did “This is a…” with library related objects. We lastly played a game of bingo to wrap up the class. Students overall had a good time and were engaged with the bingo game.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): MC decided to go a different route and talk about the 2018 World Cup. We had a total of 2 students at first and 2 more arrived maybe 30 after the class started. MC quickly adjusted lesson plan to meet the levels of the students. MC brought in a Brazilian soccer jersey in which we did a “This is a….”. Students had a great time connecting and laughing with each other during this activity. Other activities included dictations, round robin, listen and point, and a fun word search. One student ended up leaving early and students were rearranged. Class ended with a round robin asking students who they are rooting for in the world cup. Great class tonight.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Very small class this evening. We started off the lesson with the same beginning set up and did some dictation. We then went on a small field trip to the Malden Court Community Orchard where we met with the MC’s friend who educated us about the garden and allowed the students to be more engaged with learning about the plants. It was a great learning experience and they were able to get a feel for the plants that are grown by the community, ask questions, and use their senses such as taste and smell. We then walked over to Bellrose Station to ensure they knew where classes would be. Overall fun and engaging class. Students enjoyed the trip and are informed of opportunities that the garden presents.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Although the class was small tonight, the learners were all regulars so everyone connected well with one another. Melissa brought in plants and we did a round robin of “This is a….” with them. Learners had a lot of fun with the plants and it was good for them to be able to see, feel, and learn the differences about the plants. Learners were very engaged with the activities and it was great to see everyone come together to help one another out. Overall, it was a great class.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): It was a small class, but learners connected well with each other through the activities. The weather was good enough that we were able to go outside and see the garden. We did a “This is a….” activity with the garden and with vegetables that were provided in class by the MC. We also did a “Do you like…” round robin with the vegetables. Overall, the learners had fun and engaged well with the activities.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): This was a large group of learners with one new student. The students really connected with one another and helped each other along with the tasks that were given to them. We did a round robin, “This is the Statue of Liberty…..” and then dictated immigration fact history. There was dictation of simple vocabulary words which helped students with the next task in forming sentences. Students struggled with the difficulty of the sentences, but Sara was able to adjust them without taking away from the facts.

Tonight’s activities ended early as we went through them fairly quickly and so we filled the rest of the time with round robin, dictation, and writing activities. There was a lack of consistency with the initiated choral response throughout the class, however, the students were engaged, having fun, and connected well with each other. Overall, it was a great class.
