What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific):We had a big class today, and sort of ran out of room at the tables. Hewoit came in last and ended up sort of floating out next to a table. We did alphabet listen and point. The energy was high and kept the class engaged throughout yell and spell and a short dialogue sequence about how many hours a day, and a week, Americans typically work. Then we learned a little bit about the history of May Day. It was some good stuff!

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Ben and I both showed up prepared to MC, but I let him take the reigns. We started the telephone etiquette model by incorporating some telephone role play into the name yell and spell. That was a pretty cool idea on Benjamin’s part. We did some dialogue with some phony phone numbers and went over things like area codes, greetings, etc… The class ended enthused.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): We had a good class today. I arrived to find the ESL Box missing. I searched the copy room, library, and teacher’s lounge, but it is nowhere to be found. I believe Benjamin and I returned it to the copy room on Tuesday after class. Anyway, Megan managed to create a whole lesson out of “Turner Overdrive”… impressive. We listened to the song, w/ lyrics, did some dictation and dialogue related to it. We finished the class with a document search of the lyrics and another sing along. Kattia has been coming with a native english speaker, Peter. He is a good guy. He has sat in on two classes so far and participates when we ask him too. He even brought some dictionaries and ESL text books to give away to learners at the end of class. I think we should keep him around. Keli was also a pleasure to work with. Overall, good class!

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific):We had a large class today, which wasn’t an issue with 4 instructors, all of whom were very helpful. We completed successful rounds of alphabet listen and point, round robin, dictation progression, and document search, all of which oriented towards the theme, Trees. The transition between activities, as well as the activities themselves, were very smooth. We didn’t get too bogged down in one activity, which kept the whole class engaged despite the wide variety of skill level. We were all very impressed with how much Jackleen’s confidence and skill level have improved. Overall, there was a lot of positive energy and engagement.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Diana took a bit of a integrative approach with lesson plan. The alphabet listen and point integrated words from the lesson into the activity. I think it is a rather productive way of utilizing the time because learners begin spelling words involved in the lesson plan. We also did a round-robin with materials that were directly relevant to the lesson. We spent a lot of time writing, and some of the dictation became difficult. Learners had great difficulty pronouncing “would.” Regardless, the energy and camaraderie were high.

It was a small class over all, which we attributed to the weather. Regardless, the connection and energy were good. The instructors worked well together and the learners appeared to be having fun.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Today we had a large class with a blend of regular, familiar, and new learners, which provided for a good mixture of skill level and exciting level of engagement. Most the class arrived a little late, which was ok for me because I arrived very late due to circumstance. Patrik was well prepared and handled the late arrivals (and far-too late arrivals) deftly and with no apparent disruption to the class.
