Lesson Title: Getting a pay raise
Date of Class: Jun 13, 2019
    Time of Class: 11:30 AM
    MC: ConallFocusedPoliticalstrategist
    DJ: AmandaAdventurousTraveler
    Assistants/Shadowers/Auditioner: Jean
    Module: Negotiations
    How Many Learners: 2
Materials Status (loyalty cards, alphabet sheets, etc):

    Self Evaluation

Preparation: Forgot to Show Up (1) vs. Every Hair In Place (10) = 5
Technique: Completely Incompetent (1) vs. Flawless Delivery (10) = 7
Engagement: Snoring Loudly (1) vs. Absolutely Riveted (10) = 7
    Connection: Open Hostility (1) vs. Kumbayah (10) = 7
    Poise: Charlie Brown (1) vs. Prince (10) = 5
    Reflection: “It was ok.” (1) vs. Life-changing Epiphany (10) = 8

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): We did listen and point with two different letters requesting a pay raise. We then dictated questions asking about the letters (ex. How much of a raise did Melody ask for?) and then round robin-ed the questions. We then round-robin asked for a raise. We went through the material quickly, and used the remaining time dictating lines from Dolly Parton’s song “9 to 5.”

    Reflection: “It was ok.” (1) vs. Life-changing Epiphany (10) = 7

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): The MC taught a lesson based around knowing the cardinal and intermediate directions. The MC was also having a gentle intervention so in the beginning we spent a lot of time on the alphabet sheet, which was useful practice to around individual pronunciation. We did not get to complete the entire lesson, but the parts that we did seemed fun for the learners who were connecting with each other and helping one another out. We practiced pointing in all directions and orienting ourselves with a compass along with some dictation of directions.

    Total Score: 43

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): I was almost late as I had to go back and re-park my car in the VOZ lot; unsure of whether or not I could, at first. There were only two learners, but we had fun passing around lots of utensils/tools and ingredients needed to make DIY laundry soap. Learners asked poignant questions about pluralizing words and the difference between a measuring cup (Pyrex) and measuring cup(S) or spoons. I forgot all about attendance and didn’t realize class was over since there’s no clock to help me pace and I couldn’t see my sundial from the smallish windows. But…we ate cookies, so all was right with the earth!

She created an incredible energy in a class. She also brought a picture, so we could predict the situation together which was really fun.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): We started class with 2 learners and a third joined us partway in. Listen and point using the bus map, then lots of TPR with the actions that you need to open the bike rack on a tri-met bus. Then a video that used and demonstrated all the TPR words. Giving students small bits of the video transcript to put in order while they watched was a cool trick and it worked great this time!

Over all, lots of laughing, a fun and engaged class!

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): The class was with two learners and one teacher but the two students are good friends which made the class have great energy. I let the class go off topic a few times as learners shared stories about sentences that reminded them of incidents because I enjoy hearing them practicing their English through unscripted conversation. I’m glad that they both had the giggles the entire class, it makes it a lot more fun to teach.

He also said he needs to give a speech at a funeral so I was helping him practice his English for that.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): We had two facilitators and two students, one facilitator was a first time shadower. We did alphabet and names. Then we moved on to dictating 4 sentences. The students worked very well together and I think both appreciated having a buddy. We ended the class with the students switching off reading an article for children about trees. They both did really well and I was very impressed.
