What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Had 5 helpers and 4 learners, some helpers came in late so we rearranged a couple times. Because of the ratio, we were able to support the newest learner in a one-on-one manner, which helped him gain confidence as the class progressed. Many side conversations between helpers and learners took place while waiting for the lower-level students to catch up.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): We had a very new and hesitant learner who was having lots of trouble with the activities. With some support for Zadok, we dropped the planned lesson and switched to some say and do activities, followed by some very simple round robins “Hello – what is your name – How are you.” The switchup worked very well. Caitlin and I both want to have a few more of those techniques as backup plans in case we run into that situation in the future!
