Class began with a learner requesting last names be used in yell and spell to practice as she was recently asked her name iin a medical clinic. This exercise was well received by the group. Focus then shifted to the severe weather of last year and how it affected PPS with school closures. Keli brought in a winter wonderland of props which included a hat, a boot, gloves and a sled. It was a small group very well engaged with each other and in good spirits. Keli’s lesson plan unfolded at a good pace and kept the interest of the group.

Qrysi was a new MC to this group and hooked them right away with a razzle dazzle alphabet point and yell and spell. Her use of simple medical props “this is a pill” really helped to facilitate connection between verbal and written concepts with the learners. This continues to be a well engaged group who”s support of each other is truly heartening.

This was the 2nd silent class led by MC Benjamin. His preparation and body language kept the connection with the learners. Props of real food emphasized lesson points and added humor. DJ worked fast to keep up! Learners comfortable sharing work to help each other. It was noted how communication can occur even without spoken language or understanding the language being spoken.

Topic was embellished by the MC utilizing brightly colored pencils and erasers during Round Robin. MC choice of Bruno Mars song also highlighted topic. Facilitators discussed need to improve methods for sound system.
