Class was focused on stormwater management with lots of science-y vocabulary, charts of rainfall and a diagram showing how overflows into the river happen – “weir wall overflow structure” was the ultimate!
Lots of tricky dictation and our students rocked it. Bar charts of rainfall and we all figured them out together.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Class started with only four students, but more kept coming in throughout the alphabet sheet. Seven students tonight and FIVE were new!
Rachel led a fun class on being prepared for winter weather. Listen & point, dictation, round robin all followed the same theme.
Some of the new students started out deer-in-the-headlights but everyone was joking together by the end of class. Good work, Rachel!

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): We started the class with two learners, and two more brand new students joined us about 20 minutes in.
A varied, high-energy lesson. Since we’d already done yell and spell when the our last couple students arrived, we got to do it twice! Lots of props for vocabulary and round robins, lots of movement and miming, all building on the same vocabulary.
I learned a lot from watching Melissa MC – I love her steady friendly energy.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): One MC, One DJ, One Dress Rehearse-er, one Shadower, four students, one kid – super high teacher:student ratio!
It was Riley’s dress rehearsal and she did a bang-up job, improvising a new approach to the material towards the end when one of our students said she wanted to get more active.
The lesson plan tonight had lots of dictation, with a pretty complicated scene about filling out an application and making sure the manager was around. The students rocked it and helped each other out a lot.

Only two students today, so an opportunity to freeform and talk a bit more!
I used the Inglés para la jardiniera flyer, which was great because it had so much material in one place – listen & point, dictation, round robin…
I was a bit apprehensive about using it since it had spanish translation under all the english words, but as it turned out, neither of our students were spanish speakers.
We also figured out which words we could talk about that Patrik had written on the board from an ongoing training that had started that morning, primarily en español – OSHA! Tool Library! Apprentice was a good one as I am one, too :)

Only 4 students tonight from 4 different languages!
We spent most of the class doing a 25-question online survey. Three of the four students were cool with doing it online, and one completed the survey on paper.
Since we had a student:teacher ratio of 2:1, we spent a lot of time working through the survey questions as students made their way through. It’s hard to provide pinpoint feedback with how it went, but a few places where students got hung up –
“I strongly agree with this statement” is a convoluted construction.
“Religious Activities,” “Laundromat,” “Entertainment” were also new vocab for some.Highlight of the class – students joking with each other as we used the surveymonkey website as dictation – PPBT82T!

A really engaged class building up to carving a pumpkin. Round Robin –> Dictation –> Hands on Activity –> a wrap-up challenge all used the same vocabulary which was awesome as many of the hard or odd English words got lots of repetition and familiarity.
We had one new learner who started out apprehensive and really relaxed into it as class progressed.
High energy, super engagement, and a great group!

Ashley fell ill and needed to head home, but made it to Midland to give Daniel the lesson plan. We had three shadowers, which helped a lot!
We learned lots and lots about apples – where to pick them, pistils and stamens and ovules, and we even ate some!
Thanks to Ashley for the lesson plan prep – It was easy to jump right in!
