    What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): We started the class on time with the alphabet sheet and the names of everyone. From then on, Julie introduced Sharon, our guest speaker, who modeled the proper way to cross the street outside of Midland and shared tips on pedestrian safety. The class ended with Genet sharing the food she had brought.

We used the Non-Native Plants poster for listen and point. Then, we asked each other what we like to grow in our gardens. We finished class by continuing to learn the song, “Five Things a Plant Need”.

    What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): We did Listen and Point with the Driver’s Test Manual. We then practice dialogue on how we get around (bus or car), and the steps to get a DL. We ended with Listen and Do using bike and driving signals. Julio brought tiramisu!

We then wrote down various plant names under the categories of Native or Invasive. We practiced dialogue based on what to do with native or invasive plants: plant it or dig it up. We ended class with listen and do with gardening words (cut, dig, water, etc.).

    Class started on time and ended on time. It was Julie’s first lesson-plan-less class. We did a lot of dialog and the learners worked together the whole time. Most of the class consisted of pretty high level learners so everything went smoothly.

    What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Class started 5 minutes late, having moved into a new, larger and temporary classroom. Eight learners were present at the start with four more joining shortly thereafter. Julie led class in a listen and point with the publication, Garden Smart Oregon. That was followed by round robin dictation on the native Oregon Salmonberry. Class ended upbeat with the song, The Needs of a Plant.

    What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Sharon from the Bureau of Transportation came at the beginning of class to deliver safety umbrellas for all the learners and to talk about her upcoming pedestrian safety class. We had dictation and choral response on things drivers and walkers should do to stay safe. We had a fun work scramble with road words and finished with listen and do with driving verbs.
