She did well and got to know most people but because she was being so informal I feel that not much information was shared but relationships were made.

Then we spoke about what you do when you feel sad and then spoke about mental health resources and how to access them.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Class started late because we were waiting for interpreters but once we got started we had 3 stations, one on hand washing one on personal safety and fire safety, and the last on when to go to urgent care, the hospital or make a doctors appointment. The stations went well, we had a guest from the county the police department and someone with a medical background. We then all gathered together to speak about what we learned and ask any questions.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): We had our first field trip! This class was held at the Belmont library, once everyone showed up i went over education in the US and the class was very engaged and asked a lot of questions. We then talked about what is learned in schools and age breakdowns and some interesting questions were asked. I spoke a bit about adult education and the library system then 2 library staff came and presented some information, we took a tour of the library and then got library cards.

We started with yell & spell names and we said our addresses. We then went over american currency and did a This is a.. pass around with coins. then Elizabeth our guest speaker spoke about banks, debit and credit, and we handed out sheets with different banks and we did a listen and point with account related words. we then practiced writing a check together and spoke about making a budget.

We then talked about other community services and we looked over the Summer Fun guide. we took a break and the moved into a discussion of the police in the US and discussed what they thought of police in their country. We then gave laws cards and went over then with small groups and we came together and talked about the laws.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Class started with a dictation progression of an introduction then choral response and then we all introduced ourselves using the script. We then did a listen and point with a emotions sheet. we then talked about things we gained coming to the US and things we lost using small groups. after this we discussed culture shock and used the emotion words from the sheet to describe each of the 4 stages of culture shock we then spoke about how we deal with being sad. then we discussed mental health in the US.
