Great Class! Everybody enjoyed themselves and the class showed a lot of positive vibes. Our class had about 3 new learners, new to the regulars who had attended the Irvington classes. Mark brought a Bingo game that everybody had fun playing, and this brought a lot of connection.

During reflection we had taken the opportunity to talk about the class and what future classes may look like. We anticipate a class nearly twice as large this next Tuesday. This is an exciting opportunity for all involved.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): This is a good class and likely will stay at about 8 students per class through the summer, unless Manny recruits more. We lost 3 learners from last week, unfortunately lower proficiency. I hope the class last week was not too intimidating. We’ll see next week if they return or we have new students. The “happy hour” at 6 was more like dead time. I suggest either a 6:00 or 6:30 start time (I think the latter is better for most in the class) and to do away with happy hour unless it improves.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Took 8/9 students to McMenamins for Race Talks. Could not get in, so we retreated to the Boilerroom and had an impromptu class. Used the menu as class material. Unfortunately, we got separated from Benjamin L and 2 of the students couldn’t fine parking (Araceli and Isabel) Under the circumstances, it was a pretty good class.

We have to call class off for next week because both me and Benjamin will be out of town. Benjamin will do the class on 8/23. I will be out of town until the class on 8/30. Question: will the class return to Irvington School once school starts?

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Tonight was evaluation night with Brooke. The class went great and it was our smallest class at this location with only 4 learners including a new face tonight. We talked about we think of when we think of summer, and we practiced choral and response with the lyrics of “California Dreaming” which had the perfect amount of repetition in the lyrics to keep the class engaged.

What happened: Started the class with a song about school that had subjects in the lyrics. Passed around school supplies for description and a little applied instruction – This went well and the class seemed to enjoy the application of sentences to a visual representation of what was being said. This was a good class.
