What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific):Learners were arriving a bit later today and as a result, the energy level didn’t reach its peak until about half way through the class. While there weren’t a whole of discussion among the learners, there were open chats during the dictation portion of the class which was the main highlight of the class.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Betty did the usual warmup activities with easily confusable letters and yell and spell. Her lesson was the historical background of how Oregon Territory came to be. We did some sentence dictations based on a video describing the fur trade. We also did a conversation piece.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Hands down, the best PPT class I’ve ever had. The learners were engaged and connected the entire time, MC and assistant were engaged and participated but the class wasn’t focused on them. There was A TON of laughing, and learners had the opportunity to ask questions and have side conversations (in English) without moving away from the lesson. The alphabet sheet flowed super well, we did names, and the title of today’s lesson afterwards. Then, we wrote down the names of some awesome civil rights movement heroes (Fannie Lou Hamer, Paul Robeson, Bob Marley, Malcolm X, Claudette Colvin, Muhammad Ali, Nina Simone). We pointed to words in a timeline of Martin Luther King Jr’s life. Before class ended we wrote down “The time is always right to do what is right”, practiced pronunciation word-by-word, as chunks, and then as a whole sentence. Afterwards, the MC said “Ready?”, the class responded with a strong ready, “Now, go home”, and the learners were surprised the class went by so quickly. A few learners stayed after and chatted about more language learning opportunities and one learner gave my MC an orange and another gave them a Starbucks gift card (for being so great lol).

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): We did the alphabet sheet, names, and the title. Then we wrote down the names of a few popular sights in Oregon (crater lake, etc), This is an apple activity, and a round robin activity asking “Have you been to ____?”. To end the class, we wrote down a few sentences about some of he places, and pointed to them on a map of Oregon.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Alex was MC. He did a variety of activities around the stormwater management curriculum, including dictations, word searches, scrambles and conversations. Minh and Ivy were assisting and I think the class went very smoothly. Minh wasn’t interested in staying for the evaluation and wants a “low commitment” experience.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): We worked with the alphabet sheets, spelled our names, dictated the title of the lesson, wrote down and practiced a couple dialogs, and did a listen and point activity with a map. It was a dress rehearsal and the auditioner was calm and there was good connection between learners and facilitators. We moved a lot of learners around so they wren’t sitting in their usual spots and it worked really well having them work with people they hadn’t before. There were 2 new learners too who expressed interest in coming back. Towards the middle of the class there was a man standing outside of the class watching so I invited him in to assist. He was unsure how to be useful at first but he got more comfortable and started helping out.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific):
Alphabet listen and point, yell and spell, dictation progression, “draw this” class had to draw a square and then fill in directions inside the square. Worked on left and rights and top and bottoms. Then we filled in a chart that was our “garden” and grouped vegetables together that benefit one another. Then choral response after each dictation. Then we did a round robin about if we have grown our food. Class seemed to be engaged. Lastly we went over basic plant facts, this sparked lots of questions from group. Overall went well. Directions and plots worked well for the class, perhaps next time less writing on the whiteboard.March 9, 2018 at 2:05 pm #9811Kalin JohnsonSpectatorLesson Title: All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Alphabet listen and point, yell and spell, dictation progression. Discussed the movie the Shining and the actors in the film. Did a round robin with the class “have you seen the movie the Shining? Yes I have/No I haven’t”. Majority had not seen the movie so they seemed interested in it. Shining scene played a scene from the movie and did a dictation progression off of what each character said. At first the class was confused but at the end after multiple plays and writing it down they understood what was going on. I suggested to Brian that he adds another layer and have the class or the facilitators act it out. Overall the classed flowed really well, and showing the scene worked well. Next time Brian said he would have liked to work on the alphabet a little more, seemed to speed through that. All in all good class.
