What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): We started with the Alphabet sheets followed by a yell and spell exercise with names. There were two dictation exercises including the class lesson, along with choral response. Estefania played a small video about the Bill of Rights and we did a document search following it. After that, we had a speech exercise with the articles of the Bill of Rights. We concluded with a listen and do exercise followed by a five minute moderated conversation time.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): There was some confusion at the library with a convention going on so we had fewer students today, and even they came in quite late. All three students were very high level so we started with introductions and dictations. Charlie had some dialogues with some missing words in between. After dictating it, we practiced the dialogues one by one. We then moved on to the listen and find activity for which we used the Bill of Rights’ preamble. We ended the class with a choral response activity.

We also noticed that there were 3 different ways to write number and discussed that a bit to show that there are several different ways to come up with the right answer. We listened to a rap about the Bill of Rights and then everybody shared phrases that they were able to pick up from the song. We talked about specific words that were important and answered questions that the learners raised.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific):

Well this was an interesting topic to tackle. WE all felt that it was difficult to discuss as a conversational theme depending on the context that the learners would have. Nonetheless the MC did a nice job of tackling it and we agreed that it was easier for her to do this because it was less emotional for her than if it had been women’s suffrage which was easier for me to tackle. We went through the standard lesson plan and all the assistants took turns calling out letters at the beginning portion of the lesson. We were all very busy helping with the dialogue and everybody seemed to be engaged in the entire lesson. After the dialogue and practice with it we watched a video several times then the learners wrote down words or phrases that stuck out to them. Each learner offered those to the class and facilitated the repeating of them so that everybody was able to get the information written down. We also did some of the work moving around a bit so that the energy didn’t drop. At the end we took time to break up into small groups and do a conversation round about anything that people wanted to discuss and talk about.

We started with the Alphabet sheet and moved on to yell and spell with names. Next we did a dictaion exercise and even though there were more assistants than usual, we all felt very busy. This was followed by a search and find, and a dialogue sequence which we practiced several times. MC had brought pictures of some women’s suffrage activists with a small bio about them. Each student had to read out his/her respective bio aloud and the assistants helped them do it. At the end we took time to break up into small groups and do a conversation round about anything that people wanted to discuss and talk about.

When we were done with this, two more people joined the class and we watched a video about Black Friday. They were asked to pick out words or phrases that caught their attention and were also given a transcript to do this with. We also did a short document search exercise and practiced reading sentences about Black Friday aloud. We also did a listen and do exercise and an open discussion at the end.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific):
The lesson followed the normal format. There were a lot less people in in the class than normal so it was easy to get through things and most of the people were more advanced learners. There were also snacks and so we spent the time in a more relaxed way since we were talking about the holidays. After the lesson we spent some time in small group conversation so that people could ask questions and get better understanding about things that were talked about.
