What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): This was the first night at St Andrew’s. Things were a little rocky to start. Some learners were late because of brute luck, but those who were able to make it had a really great time once class finally got into the groove. There was a great deal of coaching of the assistants too. All in all it was successful. The learners left with positive energy.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): This class went very smoothly. Though several learners were unable to make it on time, Patrik was able to appropriately adjust his lesson plan to meet the needs of the learners. He offered very effective and precise coaching to the assistants which in turn made them very successful in helping the learners to achieve the goal of the activity. There was great energy among the learners. Lots of positive group work. Definitely one of the better classes I’ve been a part of.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): This class went fantastic. This group is really great at fostering a learning environment with lots of group work. We did a few dialogues and some listen and point activities. Ashley did a great job of commanding the class and facilitating activities that the learners were able to grasp. All of the assistants really seem to be on board with the methods and type of classroom energy we work to create. There were lots of smiles and grateful goodbyes. This group is awesome.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): The order of the lesson was mixed up a bit to accommodate a few late arrivals. Eventually leading up to the doctor’s office part of the lesson. The group was very energetic and eager to help each other, especially to the newcomers. Patrik did great at adjusting the lesson plan and making those who came late feel welcome.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Mary Louise did an incredible job managing a lot of complex variables. with 5 assistants and 4 learners, there were some inherent challenges. We worked with addresses quite a bit, identifying ordinal numbers, a dialogue about what’s my address, directional activity. A good amount of pronunciation work, and locating items on a map. Patrik forgot to update the website and get names, but we were both a little thrown off energy of the final exam. Great afterclass chat that lasted almost two hours going over what worked and what could have been improved.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): This was a watershed day – after 3 weeks, you can kind of tell if the group is committed – and it was. A nice size group for this size, one of the biggest days we’ve had so far – even one learner we thought wasn’t going to come did – she’s pretty low skill and she’s really making improvement. One learner sternly told us that we can’t stop now. We let her know that we will definitely be back in the Fall, and they should tell people just to come one time to check it out in the last week.

What happened: Though students trickled in a little late, and the room was re-arranged a few times, the class ultimately was full of spirit, community and energy with not only assistants helping, but students helping each other as well. There was a great mix of vocab/dialogue practice and TPR/activities to keep the energy level high. There was a lot of practice with real-world, conversation-style direction giving. It brought up some good questions- like the difference between ‘go forward’ and ‘straight ahead’, which were all patiently and thoroughly explained by students, teachers, and assistants alike. As a final activity Joshua had the students create their own directions and then apply them to a large, hand-drawn map, in a game-like activity which the students seemed to really like. A lot of after-class followup and conversation amongst everyone put a nice bow on an already great class.

What happened: Class started a little late because there was a lot of chaos due to Last Thursday traffic in the area. Ashley spent a great deal of time preparing the lesson. She brought lots of hands-on materials -visually interesting materials. We did a vocabulary and labeling of body parts activity with a lot of repetitive choral response with those body parts. Then we discussed ailments and used a bunch of pictures to match those ailments -headache, stomach ache, etc…
As usual at St Andrew, the class was very comfortable, focused, and engaged.
