We were in the small room, and one newish person who was quite low oral proficiency, and was confused quite a bit along the way, but it was great that David, the library manager, could explain a little bit in Mandarin. Two learners coming back after a long time away. A video that had me speaking about the Festival of Nations!

    What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Using a handout with common zoo animals, learners took dictation and repeated words, phrases, and simple sentences describing unique animal qualities, e.g. “Rabbits use their long ears to hear predators”. Everyone participated and especially enjoyed the group activity of mimicking animal behaviors, e.g. hopping when the word “kangaroo” was said. Kudos to Amanda!

    What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): It was Laura’s dress rehearsal, and she did a great job. We also had Jan, who is a brand new shadow. It was a fun class learning about pikas. We did sentence dictation about pikas, which we paired with images of pikas, talus slopes, etc and sounds of pikas short and long calls (which are adorable). We then watched a video about pikas and did some dictation from the video.
