What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): We had 2 new learners and 2 new shadowers. We talked a little about Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa. Many learners didn’t know what Hanukkah or Kwanzaa were. It was difficult to explain/act out what Hanukkah was for low level learners. The learners wrote down a few sentences, asked a few round robin questions on what holidays they celebrated this time of year, and we worked with two dialogs asking “What day of the week is Christmas on?” and “Do you work on Christmas?”. The learners were very engaged.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): This was an interesting class. We had 2 young learners who were difficult to get focused and a new learner who didn’t seem sure of the PPT approach. We wrote down a few sentences, asked a few round robin questions about Holidays we celebrate this time of year, and we played BINGO.

What happened:
Phew I hadn’t taught a class at Rockwood in a while, and I’m so used to working with small groups that I felt a little rusty in the beginning of class. Thankfully after some warming up, I got right back into my groove! We started with Alphabet, then yell n spell. This group is SO good together. Clearly they are all regulars, or at least ‘seasoned’; I was impressed by their choral response to pretty much everything! We practiced a short dialogue about the rainy weather; first dictation, then choral response then round robin (it was a bit long for the round robin but we got through it). Next we had fun learning winter weather vocab by passing around pics and actual items of clothes via ‘This is an apple’ activity. With 10 minutes left, we did a winter clothing crossword together and they loved (and rocked) it! I was very glad that Rachel was there to help :)December 5, 2017 at 10:00 pm #9485Maureen RiggsSpectatorLesson Title: Is this on sale? What is the price?

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Used the Fred Meyer flyer for sentence dictation, seek & find and for SHOPPING BINGO. Purposely dictated sentences with IS and ARE with singular and plural nouns respectively–milk is $1.99, seedless grapes are $2.49. Learners seemed to enjoy looking at the flyer after they had written sentences about the items within. Bingo was a lot of fun–lots of money and shopping-related words. I gave out chocolate coins to two winners.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Started with ready and alphabet listen and point, and learners repeated some challenging letter combos. There was a great combination of dictation, document search, fill in the blank, and round robin which kept everyone engaged. Izzy made sure to challenge learners with the material and read the class well to know when to switch activities or add a movement activity. Learners were engaged and seemed excited to practice pronunciation of difficult words! A new person expressed interest in the program at the beginning of the class and stayed to shadow the class. One of the newer learners still needs a learner ID (I did not know the language so didn’t assign them one, the card had already been made).

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific):
Eight learners in attendance today, mostly lower level; two learners were young children and two other learners had special needs. Dictation included prices (e.g. $15.50) and common grocery items. Learners raced to solve a word search; first three to finish won chocolate. The younger learners were hyper and disruptive throughout the class; Ramin helped keep them in control with the promise of chocolate and a TPR activity that got everyone out of their seats.December 13, 2017 at 2:18 pm #9509Maureen RiggsSpectatorCopy the text below and paste into a comment, then fill it out! What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): I dictated sentences having to do with shopping at grocery Outlet using a sales flyer. The sentences included singular and plural nouns so learners could practice using IS and ARE. During the Round Robin, we practiced asking each other what the cost of certain products and food is. We ended the class with a very competitive game of shopping bingo where our newcomer won the second game. Class was very communicative and lively and everyone seemed to bring in chocolate to share!

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Benjamin had a really fun hands-on lesson plan. We made cute little bean bag cell phone holders. It’s was fun, hands-on, and the right amount of challenging for some of the higher learners. Benjamin did the dictation of the step by step instructions on how to make it, a round robin with the materials we would use and then the actual making of the bean bags. Everyone seemed to have fun and it would be cool to try it again.
