Total: 31Class went well. There was a whole lot to be managed in this particular class. There were many different levels and each student had different needs. Understandably, this is something that can be challenging to manage. Ramin and I were well aware of the student’s needs though and despite the challenge, there was plenty of banter and engagement. The new module was particularly challenging since it was new territory. We pulled a few books from the library and used the illustrations and old photographs to explore pieces of history. It soon became apparent that simply because we were talking about the past, out-dated lifestyles, the concepts, and associated vocabulary was interesting and relevant. The class seemed to find it very interesting despite the broad over-arching module topic seemed heavy/dense to us at first glance.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): It was a very interesting class we had 5 learners, we started off with the alphabet sheet then yell n spell and then some dictation with choral response, round robin, listen and do, but at the end of the class we talked about our topic more deeply and we were able to do that because we had two languages presented and people who could interpret for them, therefore it was a very interesting experience.

This class began and ended on time. After our warmup activities Patrik introduced a round robin on texting. The learners asked each other if they text or not. A few do but many do not. We continued with Listen and Point on the phone tree. Announcements of no classes Thanksgiving Week plus a written flyer regarding our potluck on the 28th were given. Class ended with the learners writing down the first few lines of the song “Telephone Line” by the Electric Light Orchestra.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): very nice class overall. Learners trickled in, with a total of 8 being there by about 20 after. Two gentlemen came in looking for the Intercambio that usually happens in the other room. One of them left – he was fluent in English. The other stayed- he was not a native speaker of English though I’m not sure what his native language was. His English was ok, but it seemed as though he could benefit from the class so we didn’t see it as a problem that he stayed. He ended up being somewhat disruptive but Ramin handled him pretty well. Besides that, the learners were engaged and interested in the activities. Class ended with a competitive document search which created much laughter.. great way to end!

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Today, I laid out all of the deck of professions.. it took up both of the tables, put together. It was not the most effective arrangement, but I wanted to see how much space it would take up and what we could do with it. I also was very conscious to mix people up a lot, which was mostly really good. One learner who often has trouble really did well, laughing and giggling with a good placement of people. A couple of people left early. A good group.
