What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): I prepared a lot by writing out a solid lesson plan, which included keyboard practice, wikipedia, using word. We had a long meeting beforehand where I expressed my concerns about an overview model rather than a figure it out as we go along model. There was a strong feeling among all of us that we should try to make it work. The class seemed quite successful today, particularly for the lower skill learners, who really really enjoyed the typing games. One said “more games!” everyone was into it and it made the time go by fast. There was some of the standard challenges.. computers not being configured the same, people going ahead or falling behind. It helped a lot to have a lot of assistants. A brief moment of concern at the end when people didn’t know ahat to look for in Wikipedia, and I had them look up their hometowns in a flash of inspiration, and this was very successful.. one learner expressing delight at not seeing images of her hometown in more than 20 years… then she cracked a joke which made everyone laugh, and that was it – that class is a community! Next week will be more of an explanatory space and I won’t be there, and they’ll try to see if they want the blended class idea or not.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Gaston did the module from the Oregon State University data collection questionnaire about pests. The learners are really starting to form a cohesive group. They are now joking with each other. Ran out of time at the end but got all the data.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Monica was unable to come, so we did a computer class without turning on the computer. We passed around hardware, and it was funny – it looks like folks haven’t been doing the This is A activity, so it was just familiar enough to not choke, but new enough to be funny and last a long time. All assistants were helpful and flexible, willing to take direction. Learners were writing down stuff without being asked, and helping each other that way. We decided to split the English class and the Computer class. Very pleased with a good turnout!

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Mark brought in two Santa Claus hats, one for himself and one for his DJ as well as brought in homemade cookies including an array of different decorations to put on them!! We had three guests from Havurah Shalom that were excited to see what PPT @ Rigler looked like with regard to the curriculum, facilitation and implementation of PPT (They left before the end of class). Had they stayed………they would have seen the culminating activity in Mark’s Christmas cookie decorating lesson. Along with the Santa Claus hats and the homemade cookies, Mark also brought in different colored sprinkles, icing, and tips to adjust the diameter of icing flow from respective tubes. Learners were able to take their decorated cookies home with them along with any leftover supplies (ie-decorations) to use when they make some Christmas cookies of their own.

Date of Class: 12/13/2017

DJ: Gastón
Assistants: Sofia
Module: Life Hacks
How Many Learners: 4
Materials Status (loyalty cards, alphabet sheets, etc):Self Evaluation
Preparation: Forgot to Show Up (1) vs. Every Hair In Place (10) = 5

Reflection: “It was ok.” (1) vs. Life-changing Epiphany (10) = 6Total Score: 37
What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): It was awesome to see the learners sharing in laughter and bantering at different times throughout class. It was apparent they were all having a great time and their affective filters were low. Thus, it seemed like they were taking their self corrections and/or explicit feedback from MC, DJ, and assistant “lightly” and not allowing it to be a frustration or hinderance in their learning process, but rather experience their learning as being fun.
