What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific):It was great getting back in the groof of teaching. There were not as many learners as i thought there would be, which to me was a little disappointing. Mainly because I was looking forward to seeing familiar faces from the Spring term.
For not teaching in a few months, I think class went well. However, it didnt go exactly as I planned. I had an exercise that I have done many times before but have not done in a while and it ended up being a little rusty. I ended up confusing some learners. Other than that, it went well.
I’m hoping that more students show as the weeks go by.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): I was really glad that there were more students this time! More of my regular students showed up which was great!!!One thing i would change would be one of the exercises I did. I attempted to have a competition between sides of the longated tables, but it didnt work as i hoped it would. The competition was to have the person at the end of the table start to count off at 10, than they would go down the row in 10s (10, 20, 30, etc.) first row to reach to 100 won.
before we started the exercise i had them practice the numbers various times. Once i briefly tried to explain the object of the game, half the learners didnt pick up on it. after various attempts we finally were able to get it right, but it took a while.
Its an exercise that I like, and will try again. However, i now have some ideas of how i can do it without over expalining it verbally.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific):1) Preclass: Got to check in with Mika and Gabby before class real quick.
2) Yell & Spell: Lo7rraine showed up here and we all got to work with the whole 2 students we had to start with. We finally built up to 7 by twenty after.
2) NESW: Had students point to the cardinal directions. Went fairly well.
3) Ordinals: Ran through ordinals, did some “th” practice.
4) Addresses: Had students write down addresses. It’s always amusing how you throw out stuff like this and some students instantly give up, but by mid-way through they’re blasting through it.
5) TPR: {walk, read, drive, go straight, turn left, turn right, do a U-turn, stop} By this time, we had run out of time to do a dialogue, so I made up some TPR on the spot. Ended up working pretty well, and the end I had everyone get up and move to my direction, which seemed to be silly fun for all.
6) Postclass: Sat down with Mika and Gabby to talk about class, Lorrain had to leave. The two of them seemed to enjoy the class too, so that’s good.December 30, 2013 at 12:00 pm #521WebMaestrexKeymasterDate of Class: 10/22/13

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): This was a very nice class. It was good to see some familiar faces, and I saw some learners, brand new, really working and making some short term gains right there with 100,000. One of the best moments: one of the participants shared her own story, and it was very moving, as she said how long her journey was, but she clearly made it to another stage. It’s a long slow journey, but it has progress and beauty and accomplishment along the way.December 30, 2013 at 12:00 pm #522WebMaestrexKeymasterDate of Class:10/17/2013

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific):First time teaching was very nervous and was overthinking my lesson plan but as I could remember seemed like everyone got the hang of it and verenice was there to help me when I froze but other than that class went well first time was alright. There is always room for improvement!

Second day teaching I thought it went better than last week was able to improve more on the lesson that I taught last week and was able to teach a new one and seemed like everyone got the hang out it but now I just need to focus more on my technique. I need to work on saying “ready!” and verenice jumped in when I needed a role play to happen which was a lot of help and she also helped me when I was trying to get everyone to repeat after me or to write something down, just to say “write this down” or “repeat after me” other than that class went really great today and I felt really good about class!

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): Personally I thought class went really great was nervous teaching a new module but I got it! the only thing that I blanked out on was when I was teaching the dialog I forgot to have them role play A and I do B then they do B and I do A but thanks to verenice she reminded me and I ended up doing it before class ended. Other than that everything went well and I had a great class but there is always room for improvement!December 30, 2013 at 12:00 pm #526WebMaestrexKeymasterDate of Class:11/7/13

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): I was not as prepared for this as I would have liked to of been. An exercise that I thought was going to be simple and quick turned out to be difficult and long. The exercise I did was having the learners go arond the table pretending to call each other. I have done this exercise many times before and it has always worked out just fine. The problem this time was that I didnt write dont the dialogue for myself, so when I went to repeat it I said it a little different each time. The students noticed and got confused by it.This was just a reminder that writing down dictation and dialogues are very important for me too so that every lesson is clear.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): It was wonderful to work with Maryam today and this group, which is very connected and relatively high level. Small group, but they’re rad. Working with the holiday shopping ads seems to be just the right thing. I could have taken it a little higher, since they are so comfortable, and relatively high level.. A little more productive language with writing it down too – though we did a little bit of that with what did you buy? There was an interesting discussion about Tilapia and Mojarra that could have been put into English very easily. -
