DJ: MC Entered attendance, no DJ
    Assistants/Shadowers/Auditioner: Claudia
    Module: Green Infrastructure
    How Many Learners: 2
Materials Status (loyalty cards, alphabet sheets, etc):

Preparation: Forgot to Show Up (1) vs. Every Hair In Place (10) = 6
Technique: Completely Incompetent (1) vs. Flawless Delivery (10) = 7
Engagement: Snoring Loudly (1) vs. Absolutely Riveted (10) = 8
    Connection: Open Hostility (1) vs. Kumbayah (10) = 8
    Poise: Charlie Brown (1) vs. Prince (10) = 6
    Reflection: “It was ok.” (1) vs. Life-changing Epiphany (10) = 6

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): We had two facilitators and two students, one facilitator was a first time shadower. We did alphabet and names. Then we moved on to dictating 4 sentences. The students worked very well together and I think both appreciated having a buddy. We ended the class with the students switching off reading an article for children about trees. They both did really well and I was very impressed.

We started the class as normal but he talked about how he thought he learned better from one-on-one conversation. He also said he needs to give a speech at a funeral so I was helping him practice his English for that.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): The class was with two learners and one teacher but the two students are good friends which made the class have great energy. I let the class go off topic a few times as learners shared stories about sentences that reminded them of incidents because I enjoy hearing them practicing their English through unscripted conversation. I’m glad that they both had the giggles the entire class, it makes it a lot more fun to teach.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): There were two students in class today both were very very low level. During this class we talked about Portland’s heat advisory for this week and how trees help cool the air. I let the learners try to spell each word once and then wrote it down for them. I felt that one student got frustrated when I wasn’t immediately telling him how to spell it and making him try, but he get better at trying to spell the word once by the end of class. Both students spoke very little English so it was very hard to direct them during class.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): The class was spent talking about Midland Park and the components that make up a tree. We dictated a few sentences about the history of the park and then dictated parts of the tree (both singular and plural). We did “This is a” with different materials that I collected outside before class began. We went outside and talked about two different trees. I made students repeat sentences one-by-one in a group. We headed back in to fill out a Fill in the Blank Worksheet about different parts of a tree. The students were super engaged and the energy was very high! Probably the funnest class I ever taught. All of the students’ energies meshed very well and made for an awesome class.

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): We started the class around 6pm with only 4 students and 3 facilitators, but as the class carried on, we ended up with 7 students. We dictated sentences about labor unions and VOZ in particular. We did a round robin with the question “Do you know what a labor union is?” We dictated sentences about the Legacy planting project BES did with VOZ. We did listen and point with a sheet of The Benefits of Trees. For the last activity I had 3 paragraphs with 7 fill in the blank word slots. The 3 paragraphs was transcribed from the KATU video about the project. Most of the students wrote all 7 words (trees, thirty, grow, stormwater, nature, stress, workers)!

What happened (as short or as long as you like, but be specific): We had a slow start, no one seemed interested in attending class. Around 11:45am one student was interested, so we started around that time. Another student joined around 12pm. I intended for this class to include a walk around the neighborhood to look at trees but no one wanted to do the tour since it was really hot, so I discussed the same topics with pictures of the trees.
